I was a Local #46 Ironworker (yeah all the Irish nut jobs) when I saw the south tower get hit from the 41st floor of a highrise I was working on for Marine Construction at the time. AOL was the Internet at the time (Dial up and listen to a fax machine sound for 20mins. to get online) and right after they shut down the jobsite and advised everyone to get out of Manhattan before they close the island I packed up all my tools, about 80lbs and ran down 8th Ave and got to Church St before the 2nd tower fell. I remember it was a Tuesday, lots of people covered in white running the other way. I also remember staying there till Thursday as a first responder, the pile so hot it was melting 2-3 pairs of work boots a day
Even saw a woman who had jumped rather than burn alive falling and hitting the sidewalk area. That was 1of 2 things I'll never forget, the 2nd being the smell of jet fuel. Thank God September is over cause it's the fu**in worst time of year for me. Still having damn nightmares and panic attacks... Always Remember.
