Stay safe everyone!!

THREE TO FOUR FEET of snow in the hardest hit blizzard areas. DANG!

The Western U.P. is set to get walloped with an all-out blizzard that will last into Thanksgiving morning.

WED: System snow pounding the western U.P. while rain for others quickly turns into snow through the day. Winds howl to 55mph+ along the lakeshore with gusts over 50mph inland. Northern Lower and the eastern U.P. don't get much wind until Wednesday night. Read that again and repeat it out loud. W-I-N-D.... I-S..... D-E-L-A-Y-E-D... for some.

WED NIGHT: Snow ramps up for all lake effect prone areas to a north / northwest wind in the U.P. and Lower Peninsula. High winds and the right wind direction can absolutely carry some bands of snow across the entire state. Just because there isn't an official blizzard warning doesn't mean it'll be "fine." There will be white out conditions, bitter cold temps, high winds, and quickly accumulating snow.

THANKSGIVING: Lake effect continues with high winds gusting to about 40-45mph and very cold temperatures. Lake effect areas could get a maximum of about 9" more with many areas between 2-6" additional. (Map being issued for that specifically later).

FRIDAY: Isolated lake effect bands remain with a lot of us quieting down. Breezy, still. Cold, also.

SATURDAY: Another system comes in (Map issued later. Lets get through one storm first lol).

SUNDAY: Other system is still snowy. :-P more to come later.

One more update from Great Lakes Energy, regarding warming shelters across the region:

“For those in need from the ice storm in our northern territory, and who are able to travel (please do so carefully), here’s a list of available warming shelters. We’ll continue to update this post as more locations become available.

We are incredibly grateful for all the kind words, thoughts, and prayers during this devastating ice storm in our northern territory. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Multiple crews—from other GLE outposts, contractors, mutual aid from fellow cooperatives, and tree crews—are working tirelessly, safely, and efficiently. However, full restoration will take multiple days.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work through these challenging conditions. ❤️

Stay safe everyone!! Our crews will be starting again at 3:00 a.m. please be patient.

(edited) Additional lake effect snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are possible through tonight, particularly over the eastern UP where a more intense band could set up for multiple hours through Friday morning. Whiteout conditions will remain possible at times, and cold wind chills dropping into the single digits below zero in spots could lead to dangerous conditions if you get unexpectedly stranded outside. (12/12/24)

Our crews have been working since 3 a.m. the conditions have been intense, stay safe at home if possible.

Please use extra caution when considering travel today. The county hasn’t been able to plow many of the secondary roads. Our crew just helped an elderly woman who was stuck and had intended to continue to a location that was completely impassable.
