This is a Stanley no. 6 plane, sometimes referred to as a fore plane or try plane. The conversation around what plane beginners to woodworking should buy has been talked about ad nauseum. My first plane was a Veritas low angle jack plane, perfectly fine plane but it lacks a chip breaker. Why bother even talk about it, then? This no. 6 is the plane I pick up to do most general tasks in the shop. I recently was reading Cricket tables by and he talks about using this plane as his "jointer." Alan Peters talked about using a no. 7 for most tasks. Most of the planes people talk about are 4's or 5's, but for my bench work it's this no. 6 or 4 1/2 smoothing plane... and if I need to do some quick rough work then I use a short wooden jack plane because if you need to take a deep cut it will still just glide over the surface.

I don't really know the life this chair lived, but at one point it had it very rough. I imagine it spent a good deal of time tipped over in a barn, joints suffered, the front edge of the chair had rotten into nonexistence. I would have preferred to make a better match on the front edge repair, but such is life, that's what I could do with what I had. It came to me (by way of ) a scruffy, broken chair, plenty of charm though. It is still a scruffy old chair, but it has been mended. May it live to see many more days.

This is my drawknife. It's actually the first drawknife I ever bought. I've had it for about a decade but rarely used it. It almost exclusively came down to the shape of the handles. Too long and narrow, the upper "rib" was too far from the lower handle swell. However, like all Barr tools, the steel is absolutely top notch and therefore I thought it needed amending instead of selling it. The angle of the handles is also spot on, very similar to the old Witherby's. I believe their more recent renditions of this drawknife also have the weld above the washer that acts as a stop for the handle cleaned up nicely, the weld mine was not particularly neat. So I cleaned up the weld and turned some new handles (honey locust with a brass ferrule). And then I gave it a good sharpening. I'll probably take down the pointy-ness of that upper grip area some, otherwise it feels great and I'm happy to include it in my regular cycle of tools again.

Tapered the back sticks, still octagonal, they'll be shaved to round-ish. Did some rough shaping to the crest rail.

Drilled holes for back sticks, tenoned them and stuck crest rail on. Took an obligatory test sit with them in place, quite comfy. Looking forward to saddling the seat.

A restoration of a 1961 Chris Craft Capri. Some decisions were made to deviate from the original aesthetic, notably a lack of white paint on the aft part of the covering boards and topsides. This was a long project, and a lot of work. I worked on many other things along the way which lended to that timeframe. It won Junior Judges Best in Show and the Best in Show (related to me by the owner) from the adult judges at the banquet for the Skaneateles Boat Show. That felt good.

A couple finished pics of the Skog hunt in a new haft. The haft is hickory, finished with Swedish pine tar and a linseed oil/beeswax blend. The hang was a bit ugly on my part as I wasn't careful with driving them equally and the second one wouldn't drive further with reasonable force, and the eye was a bit wonky. A solid hang nonetheless.

Unfortunately I rarely remember to take pictures of things I do. I recently bought this Hjärtum axe and am re-hanging it, the haft that was on it was distinctly lacking. This Hjärtum axe was made by Johan Skog. I'll try to remember to post finished pics.

I've been wanting a dovetail plane since I read Tage Frid Teaches Woodworking... which was probably close to ten years ago. Made a number of sliding dovetails in that time with a router and a dovetail bit ala Tage Frid, but wanted to get one of these because I think they're neat... they also seem to be quite effective at doing the job they're designed to do based on the test pieces I hastily tried. This one is a vintage JPBO dovetail plane, made in Odense, Denmark. Purchased from , they have a range of nice vintage tools, I certainly would purchase from them again. Thanks .
