"Work harder not smarter". Isn't that the saying? Wait, maybe it's work smarter not harder. Heck. I don't know. I think I chose the first one on this beast. 39 of the last 56 days were spent on this project, (284 man hours total) the other days were spent mowing properties and somewhere in between, I got some sleep. Been 8 weeks of 7 day work weeks lately. Losing your best employee Kaitlyn the day you sign a project like this means only one thing, time to man up and git 'er done.
STATS:
Remove three 30 yard dumpsters (equal to 4.5 quad axle dump trucks) of old garbage, rotting railroad ties, overgrown brush, etc..
Excavate 375 cubic yards of soil in preparation for the new walls (s) (was able to relocate on-site which saved the client 5k in trucking)
Install 1390 segmental retaining wall block ( a cool 77 lbs. each equaling 107,000 lbs.)
Install 288 retaining wall caps and 16 steps
13 quad axle dump trucks of clean stone used for footings and proper backfill for the retaining walls.
This project may have seemed quite daunting for one guy, but in all honesty, I couldn't have asked for a better scenario. I had to start on the end along the pool and work my way back out of the backyard, down to the driveway (where my access point was over where the second phase wall would go) and then around the back of the garage for the third wall phase. So it really broke the project up nicely where I would excavate, build some wall, topsoil and seed my way backwards. So that broke up my process and it wasn't like 3 weeks of heavy blocks, or a week of raking topsoil, etc.. Was kinda a good mixture. So I was happy about that.
So, when you want something done, you just go get it done. No excuses.
Customer was very pleased with everything as was I with them. Very easy to work with considering I felt like the year started with one as***le after another. Customer followed the project along and added the lighting. Project fell just short of six figures for cost.
Good way to end the season (well, close to ending) with a great and appreciative customer. If you know someone looking for hardscape work, I'm here and have been for 25 years!

Finished up a smaller wall before winter hits, if it ever does. Thanks to Brett, and thanks to Ellen at https://evhmarketing.com/ for the business. Coincidentally, Ellen at EVH is our website designer for https://www.extremegreenlawnandlandscape.com/ Check her out if anyone needs something. We'll be back in Spring for the lawn and plantings!

Well, looks like after about 2 years or so now of losing control of this page due to hackers, and with no help from Facebook, I was able to somehow regain control.

So look for some postings and projects in the near future from last summer. I'm excited to get the 2026 Summer season going! Hoping everyone stays safe and we look forward to warmer days!

If you would like to share our page, please do so and we would be greatly appreciative for that. We're running a tight ship here and the season fills up extremely quick. We are focusing mainly on hardscape projects (paver patios, retaining walls, fire-pits, etc..). Additional work includes plantings (install/removal) and landscape bed material installation such as mulches and decorative stones. Our primary service area is Germantown and the immediate areas around us. Please inquire for your specific location if you're in question about it. Thanks!

So again, share if you care and please reach out with any needs! Make it a great day whatever you do!

Another Germantown project 3 blocks away. Love the travel time. Actually walked to the site one day, lol! 🚶‍♂️Had to get equipment back and short on drivers.
Adding on to some of the existing landscape with Lannon, Natural Stone, wall material. Customer had a gorgeous pool put in and needed some grade/slope issues resolved with a retaining wall around part of it. Addition of a small walkway also. NOTE: customer is installing all glass surround for fencing material. Looks amazing. Although the last couple days finishing up the project was a little unnerving with some of the glass installed! Thanks so much Jason and Christy! Looking forward to the finishing touches in Spring!

Out with the old sunken concrete and stoop, and in with the new pavers at another Germantown property. Not sure why I didn't get a photo with the topsoil work, but that had completed the project! We enjoy these projects where we can get in and out rather quickly and make a significant change to the property. Fits our business model perfectly. Thanks for the business Dan and Brenda!

WOW! Haven't posted since Spring and felt today was an appropriate day to get a word out. First off, is a huge THANKS to all the Veterans out there that sacrificed their lives and their time away from friends and family not knowing if they'd ever see them again! Without those fearless people, I could not enjoy the American Dream! To have started my own business, a family, my weekend hobbies. I owe that to ALL of those who have fought for, and repsect the American Flag and this Country with all their heart, soul, and their life!!! Everyday is a gift and the freedom we have to pursue those dreams and happiness! I hope we never lose sight of that and what it means to the American people.
So as we close out our 20th year of business, I first and foremost, again, THANK our Veterans. I also want to thank our AMAZING customers and the honor of them choosing my business to provide the services they request. I LOVE our clients and the relationship that is built by the end of a project. Old customers, new customers, I am grateful to all of them, especially in these trying times in our Country. THANK YOU ALL. You've become a part of my life, and as you have all meet and know, a part of my daughters life who has become an amazing young worker, equipment operator, and great addition to my daily activities. The final blessing is of course, the anchor to keep me and Katy in check, my wife. I wouldn't be where I am without her support! So never take for granted the every day things you have right in front of your very eyes!
Now that the season has wound down, I will finally have some time to get some project photos and "Thank You's" out to our amazing customers! THANK YOU!!

Entering the start of our 20th season and we are in some crazy times and uncharted territory, but I'm pleased to say our schedule is filling up and booking deep into the summer! Looks like a lot of America wants to keep moving forward! With that being said, we are looking for help/employees. If you know of someone who has lost their job or someone in general looking for work, please pass this along. Even if it is a general labor position you'd like to fill until things are more settled with your job, that works also. Spring/early Summer is always our busiest time where extra help is welcomed. Please feel free to reach out to us if you are interested.

Your best bet when looking for a contractor is to put a little face to face time in. Talk to friends, neighbors, co-workers. You'll get your best feedback and real world recommendations. I know we're in a "app" day and age, but these companies providing some of these alleged referral services have nodody's interest but their own in mind. They will refer any company, regardless of their credentials, just to get their fees. They do not have the business, or customers, best interest in mind. We receive calls and emails weekly by these companies. Our good name and work is what we use to sell jobs.

Todays tip is for new construction homeowners, even moreso, potential or future new construction homeowners. It's that time of year when we start responding to the calls and begin meeting with these clients. The biggest suprise for our potential clients when we meet with them is the cost of their landscape and driveway/concrete work. New homeowners have no idea of the time, expense, and work involved with these projects, why would they? They are almost ALWAYS blown away with these associated costs and have not been informed or prepared for these expenses. From my 20 years of experience, the builder is doing no favors to the homeowner or landscape company when providing information to the homeowner about the potential costs of landscaping. Their numbers about landscaping are extremely skewed and nowhere near the cost that it is. If I was a betting man, my gut tells me the fictitious low-cost numbers provided to the homeowner is due in part to the builder trying to extract every dollar possible from their client. We would like to help you look to the future and help you gather as much information as possible to make your journey to the completion of your home as seamless and painless as possible. Being the last service provider for the project, we are usually working with drained finances, due to poor information. My suggestion is for new construction clients to do their research by reaching out to these contractors and gathering pricing. A simple plat of survey provided during your build, will allow a landscape contractor and driveway contractor to view your layout and give you a relatively accurate cost for your work. The plat of survey provides all the dimensions and numbers a contractor would need to price this work. Of course there may be changes and/or add ons that may change pricing, but in my experience, it will get the homeowner into the real world pricing of these services to accurately budget for those costs. Please, if you or someone you know may be building, pass this advice along. We are always here to help with any questions you may have!

A survey performed to define and mark the boundaries of an existing parcel of land is a plat of survey/ boundary survey.
