#1 Stanton House Museum, Clinton, CT. Six window sash, made for the 1792 Adam Stanton House Museum, in Spanish cedar ( 3 nine lites, 2 twelve lites and one 8 lite. The originals ( of these six sash)were just too far gone to repair and were falling apart. We were able to save and restore all the other sash we worked on. More photos to follow of finished /repaired sash and installation.

The Circa 1750 Bristol House. Walls of 18th century raised paneling we acquired, one wall that will be used to replace a similar wall of raised paneling that was insensitively removed from the house ( we had nothing to do with that removal). The other wall was removed years ago and replaced with the inappropriate “ pseudo-featherdge.” We also have plenty of raised panel wainscot for the parlor. One firebox will be slightly enlarged and we have the stone to do that. The left front room will have early very wide board, more simple wainscot at chair rail height and the other nice wall of raised paneling. I am still amazed that I could find these period walls that fit perfectly from the same timeframe of the build of the house.
House still available for purchase to be dismantled and moved to your location . Phone (texts preferred)

Still available for purchase to be built on your land: The Circa 1750 Bristol House : From a distance, the left front room featheredge sheathing looks pretty nice , but up close these are recycled house sheathing boards with water sawn marks and no hand planing from a circa 1960’s botched “ modern colonial” interpretation. These boards could be used in an outbuilding, but do not belong as finished material inside the house. The four panel door with strap hinges to the right ( and its surrounding treatments) is original and will be retained. I have found two beautiful walls of 18th century raised paneling that fit perfectly in this room and the right front room ( parlor) to replace the paneling in the parlor removed by some very insensitive individuals. All stone from the fire boxes will be retained, along with any original hearths and foundation stone above grade. The front entry door to the parlor survived too and that will also be retained for the parlor.
Following will be the 18th century raised panel walls from
the same time period that we acquired and serendipitously fit the two front rooms.

More photos of The circa 1750 Jonathan Bristol/Gideon Bristol House. About three ceilings are shown that originally had exposed beams. where the second floor frame is oxidized and has taken on a deeper brown hew. Eventually two of the ceilings of the first floor ( actually second floor frame of joists and summer beam) were plastered. Early door with hand forged ball and spear latch, start of rear stairwell, featheredge boards painted a more modern color in early kitchen with framing that appears to have never been plastered , and nice shot of New Haven Colony attic with early vertical roof
sheathing and smaller horizontal purlins ( all in excellent condition).

#2) Jonathan Bristol/ Gideon Bristol
House-other exterior views. Window in gable ended attic was covered at some date in 20th century and would be returned in the restoration. Another inappropriate 20th century lean to at left foreground in first photo above would be removed . Recommendation would be to add a story and 1/2 ell within the back of house to not interfere with the original lines and the impact of these excellent saltbox lines . This ell could be used for a “new” kitchen and other living space made to complement the features of the original house.
A little history on Gideon Bristol, born in this house in 1754. In 1776 he enlisted in the Continental Army as a common soldier and gradually rose to an officer’s position due to his competence , bravery and apparent tactical abilities. He served through the War for Independence through 1783, and as an aide to George Washington. He was so respected by Washington and others that he was selected to collect the weapons of the English officers at the deciding battle of The Revolution at Yorktown, Virginia.
When Lord Cornwallis feigned illness, Major General Benjamin Lincoln , being second in command for the Continentals, accepted the sword of General John O’Hara , second in command to Lord Cornwallis.
Lincoln was then allowed to keep the sword .Lincoln ( no relation to Abraham Lincoln)was also present at the battle victories of Saratoga and Charleston.Lincoln was appointed as the first Secretary of War by The Confederation Congress in 1781 and seerved in that position until The Treaty of Paris, ending the Revoltion) in 1783. He was later a member of The Constituional Congress.
More to follow with a third post….more photos of interior of this house…..

The circa 1750 (possibly earlier) Jonathan Bristol/Gideon Bristol House. Steeply pitched New Haven Colony saltbox available for purchase at your location (wherever that may be),to be dismantled, documented and labeled .Story and a half lean to in right foreground is mid 20th century and not to be retained. However, there are recycled antique parts to be saved that were installed in this lean to that will be saved. Once the lean is removed, the full lines of this dramatically beautiful saltbox will be revealed. This is a very transitional house from First Period to Second Period with many originally exposed beams. More photos to follow in next post. This is Post #1.
