Here's a few pictures of Red Shouldered Hawk fledglings that needed a welfare check yesterday. Both parents care for the baby's and the father sustained fatal injuries and unfortunately had to be unfortunately. The mother had not been spotted in awhile and Owl Moon Raptor Center contacted us to come out to climb the tree to check on the babies. So we headed right out to the nest site. While in the process of climbing up the tree, the mother, with impeccable timing, decided to come back with a frog for dinner!! After assessing the health of the babies, it was decided that it would be wise to remove the smaller weaker looking of the 3 to give it a better chance of survival. And it will also be one less mouth to feed for mom. Fly high little guys!!
