The leaves are coming down, and your trees are about to show you what they've been hiding all summer.

👉 Dead branches can come out any time
👉 Many trees are best pruned once they're dormant (resting for winter after the leaves drop)
👉 Some work is better off waiting a few weeks

A cable in your tree only keeps doing its job if someone checks on it.

Cabling is a steel cable high in the canopy that supports a weak fork or heavy limb. Once it's up, most people forget it's there. Before nor'easter season, take a look from the ground:

✅ The cable looks slack or droops between anchors
✅ Bark is growing over the hardware
✅ The union (where two stems or limbs meet) looks wider or cracked
✅ Hardware looks bent, rusted, or pulled

Checking the cable itself happens up in the canopy, right where the load is... that's a job for a trained climber, not a ladder!

Spotted lanternfly egg-laying is underway in South Jersey this month, and the egg masses turn up in some unexpected spots.

Here's what to check from the ground:

✅ Smooth gray patches on tree bark, especially trunks and lower limbs
✅ Outdoor furniture, firewood stacks, and parked vehicles
✅ Fence posts, rails, and any flat, hard surface near your trees

❌ Don't climb a ladder to check higher limbs. Egg masses you can't safely reach aren't worth the fall risk.
