Can you spot the Coca Cola bottle? šŸ‘€ They’re always on site.

Final inspection was passed on our two story front porch remodel last week. We demoed the entire thing and rebuilt it from the roof down since the previous structure was rotted and full of carpenter ants (those guys really keep me in business). We went with Trex decking for a composite material that won’t rot or be eaten this time. This material is a lot heavier than the old porch flooring so we had to overbuild the framing with larger size lumber and shorten the spaces between the joists to support it.

We also installed the Trex rain escape gutter system so that all the water from the second story gets redirected away from the first floor!

Patience, precision, and a little problem solving go a long way! In order to make the wider staircase design for this deck we added additional stringers in the angled areas and a lot of additional blocking. Putting my engineering degree to use at least.

Not every project is straightforward, but finding the right solution and getting it done right is what makes the finished product worth it and we couldn’t be happier with the look of this deck build.

Bathroom renovation for a house built in 1856. While designing the bathroom the home owner wanted to keep it as period correct as possible while updating and having extra conveniences. We worked with Best Tile to find the perfect Edwardian green subway field cut tile for the shower. We mated that with a large format natural stone look tile with a higher non slip rating. From there it was all about making ease of access in case she needs a walker in the future.

One of her favorite parts was the vanity. She wanted to keep a laundry sink that came with the house and reuse it in her bathroom. We had to make some creative solutions to get something so large to fit in the space we were working in, but luckily there was French dividing doors that we removed so we could still fit a standard framed wall behind the vanity while recessing it in the bathroom framing. We then went to colorize (Benjamin Moore) to have the tile color matched to paint the vanity and bring it all together.

You didn’t want to work a 9-5 so now you work 24/7. Who can relate?

In all seriousness though, love what I do and wouldn’t have it any other way.
