It’s that time! All descriptions of the birds will be on their picture. Local p/u or you need to arrange private transport. I do know someone I have used if you need a recommendation for that. The cockerels are almost 4 months old, so still some development to do.

I’m so impressed with these babies I hatched from KC Silkies. They have such great type and they’re really going to help boost my program just like a cockerel I got from her a few years ago put me on a solid track to producing better birds.

I am going to list a few imperfect but pretty probably-cockerels soon from the hatch soon. Most of the hatch I’m going to continue growing out but it’s time to make the first cuts.

One of the reasons I switched from my Ram to my Cherokee is when times like this morning happened. I still don’t want the chickens to be miserable when I take them in for processing. Even with using enclosed plastic carriers, I knew they’d get soaked if it ever poured on them. It never happened when I had my truck, but it got close to once. Luckily they were cozy in the back of my Cherokee while it was raining on the way to Duncan’s this morning. It’s always bittersweet, but they’ll give us half a year’s worth of chicken in my freezer. I’ll do the other half this fall.

Locals, I will have a few very pretty silkies to rehome soon. I cannot guarantee gender at this age and they will be sold as straight run, however, I have a good guess on which are getting male features and which at this point appear female.

They will either have a missing toe, extra toe, or a loose wing.

I will have more info and pictures to put up after I do detailed evaluations. If you want first dibs, PM me.

Again: I CANNOT guarantee females at this age, but I can make a good guess based on development. If you are in town and need females-only it is best to wait and see if I have any left when they’re old enough to be for sure.

Local pickup only or you need to arrange private transport. I will not be shipping USPS this year.

I get Cornish cross twice a year to fill up the deep freeze. I haven’t needed to buy chicken from the store for years. I actually do enjoy raising them even though they’re only with me for a short while.

These guys have ten days left and they’re looking….round 😆

A note to everyone, we all get spring fever BUT for the love of god do NOT:
-hatch a bunch of silkies
-get Cornish cross
-rearrange the barn
-make the hollands a summer house
-prep the garden (I actually had my son do that one because it wouldn’t have gotten done)

ALL AT THE SAME DAMN TIME.

Stress has passed, but that was an intense two weeks and I’m not doing that again 😭
