Gather around, neighbors, today we're talking about ice and water shield. 🤓
Ice and water shield is a waterproof membrane installed directly on your roof deck (it’s also required by code, so from one homeowner to another, please don’t skip it). It goes along your eaves, in your valleys, and around any penetrations like chimneys or skylights.
It’s a bit like a seatbelt for your roof. While it doesn’t mean your roof will never have leaks, it will minimize the damage from ice dams or heavy rainstorms.
🚧 One note: If your roofing estimate only shows one row of ice and water shield at the eaves, double-check why. Code requires coverage that extends at least two feet past your interior wall line. One row usually isn't enough to get there.
