The guy in this video claims he saves $40 a year by not having a light bulb in his refrigerator. So I did some maf and he am the dum.
So a 40watt light bulb that is on for 10 minutes a day only cost 30 cents a year. I was surprised too.
10min X 365days / 60 min= 60.83hours per year X 40 watts / 1000 =2.4Kwh/year
We pay 12 cents per KWh. 2.4kwh X $0.12= about 30 cents a year to run a refrigerator light bulb. Am I wrong?
I should be able to prove my math if I figure out how much it cost to run the light in a fridge per day. Let’s convert 10minutes into an hour 10/60 or 1/6= .167 hours a day X 40 watts=6.7watts /1000= .0067 KWh/day X $0.12=0.0008 cents per day X 365days=29.2 cents/year
So 30 cents a year is a long long way away from 40 dollars. Especially when you consider you probably don’t keep your fridge open 10 minutes a day unless you are dumb enough to take out your lightbulb and search around in the dark while letting all that heat in.
Here is the video that made me wonder
