According to Forbes, the "Modern Farmhouse" trend began in 2016. However, I began designing and publishing modern farm house plans in 2012, which quickly began selling all over the world out of our online store. Back then, no architects, plan designers, or home builders offered modern farmhouses because they didn't exist, except in our online store.
As a plan designer, home builder and land developer since 1977, I've been a pioneer with quite a few new building trends over the decades. I was one of the first land developers in the country to offer zero-lot-line patio home subdivisions. It took a lot of convincing with speculative construction lenders and prospective home buyers back then that the zero lot line concept made a lot of sense. One of those subdivisions is called Bryan Park, developed in 1983 and located in Irving, Texas on 5th Street near Story Rd.
I have always loved vintage stuff; including homes, buildings, automobiles, furniture, western art, musical instruments, Most of the homes I designed and built since 1977 had certain vintage features about them, including repurposed, antique bricks, stained beaded pine ceilings, cabinets, hardwood flooring, trim details, wall papers, light fixtures, hardware, plumbing fixtures, and windows.
Each of my speculative homes had what I call "signature design features" and included them in each Texas Tiny Homes plan design. However, I had no idea back in 2012 that my original plan designs would trigger a housing phenomenon like it clearly has.
This rendering is of Plan 783, which I believe played a really large roll in the Modern Farmhouse trend. It was published in early 2013. https://www.texastinyhomes.com/plan-783/.
