A few tips to help keep your basement dry!
With all the rain we have had the last couple weeks the water table is high, and sump pumps are working overtime. If your pump is over 7 years old, or your unsure of your pumps age, it may be a good idea to replace it! Make sure your pump is discharging properly away from your foundation. The closer to the city street the better. Finally make sure your gutters and down spouts are working properly.

It's that time of the year again, SUMP PUMPS!!!! As the Spring thaw progresses, you should take a few minutes and make sure your sump pump is working properly. If you do not feel comfortable doing the following steps yourself,

We will gladly inspect your pump for you! Just give us a call 701-746-4622 or message us here on Facebook to schedule an appointment.

First
Inspect where your sump pump discharges, if you usually have a hose connected it is a good idea to keep the hose short this time of year to prevent it from freezing, and potentially burning out your pump.

Second
Inspect your sump pit, make sure it is clear of all debris that may have fallen in and potentially cause the pump to malfunction.

Third
Test the pump, make sure it is plugged in, Dump 5-10 gallons of water into your sump pit or enough to activate the float switch. Do this a couple times to ensure your pump is working properly.
If your pump doesn't turn on, Test your outlet with a device you know works. If your outlet is working it is more than likely time to replace your sump pump.

Finally
According to the The U.S. Department of Housing and Development, the average life span of a sump pump is 10 years. If you are unsure of the age of your pump, or when it was last replaced, it would be good idea to update your pump before it has the chance to fail.
