The most important part of a construction project is often the part you'll never see.
Choosing a contractor shouldn't come down to who has the lowest price. It should come down to who you trust to do the hidden details correctly. Licensed, insured, experienced contractors don't just install products—they install complete systems that are designed to work together.
This week we were investigating a leak around a dormer. Once the siding was removed, we found that a critical waterproofing detail had been installed incorrectly. Instead of directing water safely back onto the roof, it was allowing water to work its way behind the roofing system.
The disappointing part is that this wasn't just one isolated repair. There are MANY similar dormers on this project, all built the same way, meaning many could eventually experience the same issue.
This is exactly why experience matters. The difference between a job that lasts for decades and one that develops problems often comes down to details that are completely hidden once the project is finished.
Quality isn't always what you see on day one. It's what you don't have to repair ten years later because your contractor cared enough to do it right the first time.
At West Michigan BUILDIT | ROOFIT, we believe doing it right the first time is always worth it, because the work you don't see is just as important as the work you do.
