Good locates depend on good gear, and keeping that gear in working shape is a big part of the job.

Look at the live camera feed inside this 8-inch sewer main, and you'll see the crawler's cable resting on rollers at the bottom of the pipe.

Those rollers keep the cable from dragging and rubbing against sharp edges as the crawler moves through the line.

That protects the equipment from breaking down mid-job and keeps the camera feed clear. Our crew stays working, and your construction crews get accurate utility data.

A real day in the life with our field crews.

Getting good utility data takes more than turning on a locator. There's a lot of troubleshooting and talking things through on the street. Some days that means fighting with stubborn equipment. Other days it means relaunching the camera until the video is clean enough to trust.

Throw in some field banter, popping over to help the other crews, and maybe a fight song to keep the energy up, and that's a pretty normal day.

Two years ago, we started Sightline Solutions because crews on the Western Slope needed better information about what was underground before work began.

We asked customers what they needed to know. Was there existing damage? How deep was a utility? Did it change direction? Was there an area that needed a closer look?

Their answers shaped how we work. When a project gets complicated, we document what we can find so crews have more to work with before they start.

Since then, we’ve grown our team, improved our process, and worked with more customers across the region.

"Are you putting fiber in the sewer?" Liam Putnam and Tommy get this question all the time!

When people see our camera cables going down into manholes on Clearnetworx fiber install sites, they sometimes assume we are wiring up the sewers.

The reality is the exact opposite. We are sending our cameras down to ensure the fiber stays OUT of the sewer. By mapping the exact position of underground sewer lines, our CCTV inspections help utility crews safely install new fiber lines without causing accidental cross bores or damaging existing pipes.

The things you hear on a job site will always keep you guessing.

Our crew member Sam was recently getting ready to inspect a line and had just popped a manhole cover open. An older gentleman drove by in his truck, stopped, and gave us some very specific instructions: "If you see my ex-wife down there, just leave her."

We are used to getting a few odd looks when we are working in the middle of the street, but that one had the whole crew laughing. Luckily, we only ever find pipes, roots, and the occasional blockage on our camera screens!

Teamwork makes the underground work! Sam breaks down how our crews stay connected on the job site.

When we run a crawler down a line, we have to track and follow it all the way from the main to the lateral and up into the yard. That means constant communication using walkie-talkies.

Sam reads back the exact depths to the team, who record it live on the laptop inside the van.

It takes precision and tight coordination between the crew in the street and the team in the van to map out underground infrastructure accurately.
