🇹🇭 DESIGN INSPIRATION FROM NORTHERN THAILAND

One of our favorite experiences while traveling through Thailand was spending time in Baan Tawai, just outside Chiang Mai, an area known for its incredible woodworking and handcrafted furniture.

Baan Tawai isn't simply a furniture market—it's a working artisan village where woodworking and carving skills have been passed down through generations. Throughout the village you'll find family workshops, craftsmen, furniture showrooms and shops filled with everything from hand-carved architectural pieces to beautiful solid-wood furniture and home décor.

We spent time visiting several of the woodworking shops, looking at different styles of furniture, learning about the materials and, most importantly, getting to see and feel the quality in person.

Northern Thailand has a rich tradition of wood craftsmanship, particularly teak furniture and intricate wood carving. What we loved was seeing traditional craftsmanship mixed with more modern, organic designs—the kind of pieces that can work beautifully in a home today while still feeling completely unique.

As builders, experiences like this are especially exciting for us. We are always looking for interesting materials, craftsmanship and design ideas that can make our homes feel a little different from everything else.

And yes... we may have done a little more than just look. 😉

We're excited to begin working with craftsmen in Chiang Mai to bring some of these beautiful, handcrafted furniture pieces all the way from Northern Thailand to future Build Works homes in Western Colorado.

There's something pretty special about knowing where a piece came from, who made it, and the craftsmanship behind it.
