❄️ DFW Winter Weather Reminder: Protect Your Home Before the Freeze
As colder temperatures move into North Texas, this is a great time to take a few simple precautions to protect your home and avoid costly damage during freezing weather.
🌿 Plants & Landscaping
Sensitive plants can suffer damage quickly in a freeze.
• Cover exposed plants
• Bring potted plants indoors or into the garage
• Add mulch around roots for extra insulation
🚰 Outdoor Spigots & Irrigation Systems
Freezing water expands — and that’s what causes pipes to burst.
• Disconnect and drain all garden hoses
• Shut off water to outdoor spigots and install insulated faucet covers
• Winterize irrigation systems by draining or blowing out lines
🏠 Indoor Pipes
Even inside the home, pipes in uninsulated areas are vulnerable.
• Insulate exposed pipes in attics, garages, and exterior walls
• Let faucets drip during extreme cold to keep water moving
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
🌧️ Gutters & Downspouts (Very Important in DFW)
Your gutter system is one of the first lines of defense against winter damage.
Clogged or poorly draining gutters can cause:
• Ice buildup
• Fascia and roof damage
• Water intrusion
• Foundation issues
Make sure gutters and downspouts are clear and flowing properly before temperatures drop.
