After a complete removal of this clients existing leaky fiberglass insulation our team had the opportunity to air seal all of the gaps, cracks and penetrations of this attic space. Once air sealed we re-baffled the attic to ensure proper airflow into the attic space prior to blowing 17” on average, of premium Nuwool cellulose in order to get this attic back to code. The final piece of this attics puzzle was re-constructing the attic access cover. The attic access cover is the leakiest point of the house because it is in direct contact with the attic space, if not sealed and insulated properly it will constantly bleed cold air in the winter and warm air in the summer into your home. Is your attic properly insulated?

Our team did a phenomenal job this week out in Muskegon. We air sealed this clients bath fan, installed a new insulated duct and vented it out of the roof deck properly with a new Braun roof vent. Once the bath fan was installed our team baffled the accessible bays and blew in roughly 10” on average of NuWool cellulose over the existing 7” of low density leaky fiberglass insulation bringing this attic back up to code ensuring our clients home will be more comfortable and efficient for years to come.

We were happy to a part of this years Homes Giving Hope golf outing! Homes Giving Hope is a transformative nonprofit organization based in Rockford, Michigan, dedicated to providing independent living opportunities for adults with mild intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Their mission is rooted in Christian values, aiming to offer a dignified, community-oriented lifestyle that many individuals with unique abilities often lack. We can’t wait to have a chance at the title again next year and would be more than happy to support more organizations like this!

Our team did a great job removing the existing leaky fiberglass insulation in this attic. Once the existing insulation is removed we have a blank canvas and an opportunity to air seall all of the gaps, cracks and penetrations in the attic space before we blow in our high density NuWool cellulose in order to get this attic functioning efficiently!

Air sealing is a low-cost, high-impact improvement that increases energy efficiency, home comfort, and building durability. It’s a foundational step in weatherizing your home—especially before adding insulation.

Another mold remediation in the books! Our field team did an amazing job treating this attics major mold infestation. Unfortunately, attics are typically out of site and out of mind for most homeowners. Peaking in your attic for a quarterly inspection is always recommended as a precautionary measure. You may even notice slight signs of mold or organic growth early and be able to prevent it from spreading unlike this client. If you notice signs of mold or organic growth in your attic space don’t hesitate to reach out, we’d love to give your attic space a thorough inspection and diagnosis the VerWys way!

Our team did a great job treating the mold in this attic space. Fortunately, the mold had only contaminated the roof deck and hadn’t made its way to the insulation. Some of the key benefits of mold remediation are as follows:

1. Improved Air Quality: Mold spores can circulate through your HVAC system and into living areas, causing poor indoor air quality. Removing mold helps reduce allergens and respiratory irritants.
2. Structural Integrity Protection: Mold often grows on wood and insulation. If left untreated, it can weaken structural components like rafters and roof decking.
3. Prevention of Mold Spread: Timely remediation prevents mold from spreading to other parts of the home, reducing the scope and cost of future repairs.
4. Energy Efficiency: Mold can damage insulation, making it less effective. Removing mold and replacing compromised insulation can help maintain proper temperature regulation.
5. Health Protection: Mold exposure can cause or worsen respiratory conditions like asthma, allergies, and sinus infections, particularly in sensitive individuals.
6. Home Value and Marketability: A mold-free attic is essential during home inspections and can affect your home’s value and appeal to potential buyers.
7. Odor Elimination: Mold often causes musty odors that can permeate the home; remediation helps eliminate these unpleasant smells.

Another properly insulated attic in the books! Our crew did a great job blowing in NuWool cellulose into this clients home. Cellulose is a superior insulation in comparison to Leaky fiberglass. Some of the major benefits of cellulose insulation are as follows:

1. Improved Energy Efficiency
• Reduced heat loss/gain: Cellulose insulation slows down the transfer of heat, keeping your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
• Lower energy bills: Improved thermal resistance (R-value) means your HVAC system works less, potentially reducing heating and cooling costs by 10–30% or more depending on previous insulation levels.

2. Better Comfort
• More consistent indoor temperatures: Rooms below the attic stay more temperate.
• Fewer drafts and cold spots: Especially noticeable in older homes.

3. Increased Home Value
• Energy efficiency improvements can raise resale value and attract eco-conscious buyers.

4. Sound Dampening
• Cellulose also acts as a sound barrier, reducing outside noise and indoor echo.

5. Fire Resistance & Eco-Friendliness
• Treated with fire retardants, cellulose slows fire spread.
• Made from recycled materials (usually paper), it’s more sustainable than fiberglass or foam.

6. Moisture & Air Infiltration
• Though not a v***r barrier, cellulose can reduce air leaks when dense-packed.
• However, if moisture is already present or develops, cellulose can retain water, so proper ventilation and sealing are critical.

Before and after a job is complete we perform a blower door test to thoroughly diagnose leaky areas of a home. Listed below are some of the crucial aspects of blower door testing.

Before the Job:
1. Baseline Measurement: It establishes the current level of air leakage in the building envelope.
2. Target Setting: Helps contractors identify areas that need air sealing or insulation, and set realistic energy efficiency goals.
3. Scope Verification: Guides the scope of work by pinpointing problem areas like leaky windows, doors, or ductwork.

After the Job:
1. Quality Assurance: Confirms whether the air sealing and insulation work was effective.
2. Code Compliance: Ensures the building meets local energy codes or certification standards.
3. Performance Validation: Demonstrates improvement in air tightness, which translates to energy savings, better comfort, and indoor air quality.

An unsealed or poorly insulated attic access cover can be a major source of heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. We think of your attic access cover as the most important window in your home. A well-sealed attic access cover helps maintain consistent indoor temperatures and may reduces energy bills. A tight seal can reduce moisture migration from living areas to the attic, which helps prevent condensation, mold growth, and structural damage. The team did a great job building a new melamine attic access cover complete with rigid foam board and weather stripping for our client today!
