Summer means three months of no school drop-off, no homework, and no Tuesday-night soccer practice that doesn't wrap up until 8.

Which means three months of fully living in the home you built.

The outdoor spaces—the deck, the porch, the pool, the outdoor kitchen—were designed for exactly this. Long days that stretch into dinner outside. Weekends that don't need an agenda. The kind of unhurried time that reminds you why you built the way you did.

We have a feeling this summer is going to be a good one.

Drive through any lake town and you'll notice a pattern. White. Gray. Blue. Repeat.

This home had other ideas.

The green siding, black trim, and warm wood accents weren't chosen to be different for the sake of it — they were chosen because this family wanted a home that reflects who they are, not just where it sits. And it happens to sit on one of the most beautiful stretches of lakeshore in West Michigan.

Distinctive design doesn't mean ignoring the setting. It means being confident enough not to disappear into it.

Home should feel like this.

Like every box is checked. Like every need was thought of before you even had to ask. Like the space understands how you live...because it was designed around exactly that.

Welcome home.

Where you build shapes everything that comes next.

Certain decisions get made before a foundation is poured, where the morning sun lands: which trees stay, what the view does at dusk. No amount of great building can undo these later. When we acquire land for the families we work with, we're not collecting inventory; we're protecting future home sites.

Swipe through what's currently available across Forest Hills, Grand Rapids, and Ada. Each one suits a different kind of home and a different kind of buyer.

If one feels like the right starting point for what you're imagining, let's walk it together.

4 bedrooms. 4.5 bathrooms. 3,525 square feet in Ada.

The Warwick wrapped its run in the 2026 HBA Spring Parade of Homes on June 6. An arched brick entry, white siding against dark roofing, and an interior built to the standard every Engelsma home is held to.

Thank you to everyone who came out to see it in person.

The entrance of your home is the first thing people see. It sets the tone for everything that follows, so it should say something worth remembering.

This coastal cottage entrance does exactly that. Those curved exterior corners are a technique called weaved radius shakes, and it's rarely executed in the Midwest. Builders on the coasts typically fly in specialists just to get it right.
Our in-house trim crew did it without leaving Michigan.

Every architectural detail here was designed to feel like it belongs somewhere timeless and getting it there required months of precise, painstaking work from people who treat the corner itself as the detail.

If you're building, don't overlook the entrance. It's setting the stage for the rest of the home.

And if you're ready to build a home that stuns from the front entrance to the back porch, reach out at our website.

This one is a project we're especially proud of. A Chicago family came to us with a vision for a lakefront estate that could accommodate the whole family, including a daughter who uses a motorized wheelchair. The site was stunning. The engineering challenge was significant.

What followed was one of the most thoughtful builds we've done: zero-step entry throughout, an in-home elevator, a zero-entry pool, a basement dug at water level, and a design that never once looks like it's accommodating anything — because that was the whole point.

Waterproofing the back porch at Lakehaven is underway, and we are already picturing every summer afternoon the homeowners will spend here.

Notice the way the lake is reflected in the windows? We live for details like that.

More to come on this one.

Most people think the luxury of a custom home is the finished product: the finishes, the square footage, the address. But for our clients, luxury starts at the first design meeting.

A custom home build asks for thousands of decisions, and without a system behind it, that volume becomes the most significant pain point within the project. Clients end up exhausted by the process they were supposed to enjoy, and the home itself becomes the source of months of decision fatigue.

We've built our entire process around a different approach. By strategically curating options before our clients ever sit down to make selections, we protect the energy and attention they'd otherwise spend sorting through catalogs of finishes that don't fit their taste or their lifestyle.

The result is a build process clients genuinely enjoy. They stay engaged with what excites them, and they stay clear of what would otherwise drain them. They get to be present for one of the most meaningful things they'll ever build.

That, to us, is the luxury experience. The home is the outcome.

Dark on the outside. Bright on the inside. And somehow, completely cohesive.

The Pine View build is a masterclass in contrast done right: a moody exterior giving way to an airy, light-filled interior. Dark metal details balanced against warm wood accents. A neutral palette punctuated by that green kitchen island that became an immediate focal point.

This is what happens when design decisions are made by a team that's thinking about the whole home, not just one room at a time.

Which contrast is your favorite? Drop it in the comments.
