Some of the most meaningful investment in team happens outside of the typical workday.

This month, our team gathered with their families at Creekside Park for our annual Summer Picnic, a tradition that's become one of the highlights of our year.

It's a chance to celebrate the talented people behind the work, encourage each other outside of project deadlines, and remember that we grow as a team when we invest in each other, not just in our craft.

We believe times like these make our team stronger and our work better.

A space that fulfills people has to work for every person in it, not just most of them.

West Michigan is blessed by a great many talented design firms and architects. Recently, members of our team joined All Belong's leadership to tour Behavioral Analysts of West Michigan (BAWMI) designed by Elevate Studios and Special Olympics of Michigan (SOMI) designed by Mathison Mathison Architects. We so enjoyed touring these projects designed by our colleagues whom we respect and admire. It's part of how we keep learning and translating that into better design.

This fall, that commitment continues at the Great Lakes Unity Conference in Grand Rapids, where we're co-presenting "Imago Dei: The Importance of Place in Learning for Students of ALL Abilities" on October 15.

Grateful to BAWMI, SOMI, and All Belong for showing us what that looks like in practice, and kudos to Elevate Studios and Mathison Mathison Architects for their great work.

At the heart of great design is a client who is understood.

This project is a beautiful example of that truth. The homeowner, as the interior designer, selected every finish and furnishing, while our architecture team gave vision to the client's dream and shaped the space and details with inspiration and practicality. In addition, our team tackled the challenges of positioning the home, pool, and garage across a sloping, wooded lot, within a defined budget.

Working closely with the client and builder partner, BDR Custom Homes, AMDG focused resources toward what mattered most: a layout that works with the land, not against it. The result is a two-story living space that frames the woods beyond, and a screened room, pool, and fire-pit patio that bring the outdoors in and extend living spaces out.

Today, the youngest students at Scottsdale Christian Academy are taking a big step!

As SCA preschoolers begin the 2026–27 school year, they’re also beginning another year in an Early Childhood Education Center designed specifically for them.

For AMDG, designing for Christian schools across the country means understanding each school’s mission and the place it calls home. At SCA in Phoenix, our team considered the building and energy codes specific to the region, along with a desert climate that influences how the building needs to perform. It’s an expression of one of our Building Blocks, Design + Technical Coherence: bringing design intent and technical requirements together in service of a greater purpose.

Bringing that vision to life also required a strong team. We were grateful to work alongside SCA and construction management partner CHASSE Building Team throughout the process.

As SCA’s youngest learners fill these spaces once again, the mission that shaped the design comes to life.

No project takes shape through one team alone.

From the earliest planning conversations through the final walk-through and punch list, we combine our expertise with that of engineers, design consultants, and construction partners. We call it full-spectrum collaboration, and honestly, it's one of our favorite parts of the job.

Appreciation at AMDG doesn't wait for an annual review. It shows up at Celebrate! (our monthly shoutout gathering), our family picnic, volunteer days, and around the table at our Christmas Eve brunch, along with the other moments you'll see captured in the photos below.

It's about pausing to notice each other: the wins, the hard weeks, the people who make our studio what it is.

We call it a culture of gratitude, and traditions like these are how we keep it that way.

Show up curious, learn from the people around you, get better every day.

This month, Ethan Sims and Don Cok took some of our newer teammates along for a site walk, not just to see the project, but to experience how the building comes together: how a drawing becomes a wall, a rough-in, a finished space.

It was Ellianne's first time supporting construction documents at AMDG, and the site walk showed her how those drawings are executed into each contractor's materials and methods used in the field. Seeing the translation firsthand gave her a better sense of how to communicate through her own drawings on the next project.

We aren't just 'Built to Serve' our clients and partners; it's how we invest in each other. Grateful for teammates who take the time to teach, and for a team that never stops chasing better.
