Years before Google Earth, DNR forester Bill Lockner used hand tools and calculated all the angles and distances to etch Minnesota’s shape into a stretch of forest in Lake of the Woods County. He doesn’t talk about it much, but he spoke recently with MPR News.

One street side's landowner has made a little bit of effort each year to keep the buckthorn down! Buckthorn control maybe daunting, but the efforts do make a difference!

Now is the time!
Buckthorn is an invasive species that is easiest to see RIGHT NOW since they keep their leaves a little longer than some of the trees around them. These plants create a dense stand making recreation difficult and also shade out wildflowers and tree seedlings.
