While in high school I began developing my other skills in woodworking, as a seriou

s hobby, that extended throughout my entire life. I put myself through the School of Electrical Engineering at Texas Tech University while operating my own HVAC business. After attending Texas Tech, I moved to the Dallas area and began a 19 year career with IBM. I left IBM to start my own computer consulting business and moved to East Texas. However, after a period of 8 years I became disillusioned with corporate politics and decided to simplify my life in order to live out my dream of starting my own wood working business. Initially, my business plan was to build high quality custom furniture on commission, but I almost starved to death as demand for such work is not high in East Texas. This lack of demand forced me to modify my business plan to include the diversity of services I now provide.

Well here it is summer of 2018 and I am still out of commission, my shoulder repair is not going as well as expected. I need much more time to heal before I am 100%. At this point I am not sure how long it will take, any work over chest high is still beyond my capabilities. I remain hopeful that a few more months will complete the healing process.

I would like to comment on my bid process. I do bids for free, but I take them very seriously as part of my job. They are not free to me, I invest time to come out and look at the job, ( i have driven as far as 100 miles for some estimates) and then invest many hours in my office to "build" the project on paper. I am a one man business and while doing estimates my revenue is zero. So my bids are an investment in my business and in your project.
Many of my competitors "low ball" bids to get the business then hit their clients up for changes that were not included in the original bid. Changes can amount to a lot of profit and in some case the only profit in the job.
I don't believe in this approach and I hate asking for changes. Some times my bids are more expensive and I lose the business. Honesty has it's price. However, in the cases that I was able to follow up on.....the client said they wish they had gone with me because the contractor that "won" the business ended up charging them more than my original bid. Also, it is important to compare apples to apples, when comparing bids. I try to communicate the components that make up my bid to my clients. Please make sure my competitors do too.

This is a project I recently completed. I refaced a kitchen with painted cabinets into a kitchen with maple hardwoods. I built new doors and drawer fronts with white maple hardwoods and refaced the cabinet boxes with maple veneer, stained and clear coated.

This is another project completed by Rocking M Services. This was a remodel of an existing bathroom into a new bath with ADA (American Disabilities Act)access and safety equipment including wheelchair access into a large shower.
