June is National Safety Month. Kitchen fires are the most common residential fire type, and they're largely avoidable. A few things every homeowner should know:
️⃣ Grease fires start fast - oil left unattended on high heat can ignite in minutes
️⃣ Water makes it worse - it causes oil to vaporize explosively and spread flames
️⃣ A lid works - slide a metal lid over a pan fire to cut off oxygen
️⃣ Class K extinguisher is the right tool - standard ABC extinguishers aren't designed for cooking fires
️⃣ If it's beyond the pan, get out - a fire that's reached the hood or cabinets is no longer DIY
