If you are in the midcoast area you can find us this Saturday 9-12 at the Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust in Damariscotta. We will have a variety of native plants and there will be multiple other native plant nurseries from the Maine Native Plant Coop and organizations as well. Come find us!

Think about adding grasses to your native garden. Grasses provide excellent material between perennials and shrubs, give seasonal interest and support wildlife. We have a lot of grass and sedge and rush species available right now. Look for them at our end of season sale Sep 19 and 20 or place an order now for pickup.

One of the accepted definitions of a native plant is one that has evolved alongside the local animal life. This is an especially helpful definition when you consider the ever changing composition of the botanical landscape.

A great example of this coevolution is the cardinal flower Lobelia cardinalis and the ruby throated hummingbird Archilochus colibrus. The long tongue of the hummingbird and the long throat of the cardinal flower bloom make a perfect match for nectar consumption and pollination.
