Grease fires can happen quickly in the kitchen, especially when cooking with oil. Knowing what to do can prevent serious damage.

If a grease fire starts:

Turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so

Cover the pan with a metal lid to smother the flames

Use baking soda for small fires (never flour or sugar)

Keep a Class K or ABC fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it

What NOT to do:

❌ Do not pour water on a grease fire

❌ Do not move the pan

❌ Do not use a wet towel

If the fire grows or you don’t feel safe, get out and call 911.
