It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to this house. This was the first big risk I took on restoring a full home. An abandoned home in a historic neighborhood. And I was risking the money of friends and family as well. I knew it would be a ton of work. But so many people put their faith in me to do. I spent a lot of time here. There were a lot of great moments and a lot of tears and frustrations too. But getting the chance to bring back life to a beautiful home, and to do it with non-toxic, eco friendly methods, and to@show the community what was possible- I’m forever grateful for that chance. I’m going to miss seeing how the light pours in through these old wavy glass windows throughout the day. She’s a beautiful home and she stands proudly now. I have to say goodbye, but someone new gets to love her now. Thanks for letting me bring you back to life.

So excited to use for the first time this amazing insulation made from wood fibers by .insulatebetter. An insulation that is and sequesters carbon!? And uses a waste by-product!? What could be better!?

We insulated the floor system from above, having already installed a pressure treated plywood down below that would serve to protect the underside of the framing and insulation. Then installed the sheathing over that. A tricky sequence, but I couldn’t think of a better way to do it.

Using the timberbatts in the walls and ceiling was super easy. It fits and stays so nicely between the studs. And we found using a table saw to make full rips was the easiest way to alter the size.

First time building an over-roof and monopoly framing. With a vaulted ceiling inside this small 200 sq ft office, this method allows the air barrier to remain continuous around the entire exterior. The tricky part was attaching the wrap that serves as the air barrier and v***r open membrane to the rafters without any sheathing in place. We added 3/4” furring strips to each rafter over the membrane, and then sheeted the roof on those. Air can flow straight up the roof under thr shingles and sheeting, and out through the top without ever entering the building.

IT’S HERE!! I’m so excited to finally get to use .insulatebetter TimberBatt insulation! I’ve been wanting to try this healthy alternative to conventional fiberglass for a few years now. We’ll be using it in the floors, walls and ceiling of this office/ library we are building for a client. No more worrying about toxic and painful glass fibers. And this stuff sequesters carbon in the project too! Yay!

We renovated a 100 year old home. And this dark dingy room was originally the kitchen. Now it’s a spacious, warm and bright laundry and mudroom. The floors are durable and warm underfoot, made by Marmoleum flooring. It’s made like old fashioned linoleum from . The walls are painted with mineral paint from .
