Eric Fennell was appointed President of Structural Wood Systems in April 2026. Today, we are proud to celebrate his 30th anniversary with the company.

After graduating from The University of Alabama, Eric joined the company as an engineer and has served in key roles throughout his career, including Manager of the Engineering Department, and most recently, Vice President.

Eric’s engineering background and technical expertise reinforce Structural Wood Systems' commitment to the high-quality products our clients rely on. The company remains focused on the structural integrity and craftsmanship that have defined our glulam products for decades.

Take a look inside Alan & Andra Perrin Elementary School in Northlake, TX!

SWS had the opportunity to provide the glulam "trees", which feature tapered columns and braces that bring the library's jungle-inspired design to life.

Throwing it back to one of the most unforgettable projects we’ve ever been part of—the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, KY.

SWS had the privilege of framing the entire structure, and watching it come to life was something special. This video is a mix of drone footage and photos from construction.

We’re proud to be part of the new lodge at Potato Creek State Park — a landmark project for Indiana State Parks.

Set along the southern shore of Worster Lake, this 120-room lodge and conference center will offer year-round access to nature, recreation, and gathering spaces, marking the first newly constructed state park facility in Indiana in more than 80 years.

Structural Wood Systems is supplying the glued-laminated timber beams and solid timber decking that will help bring this space to life, combining structural performance with the natural warmth and character of wood.

This project was sold by our sales representatives, Glue-Lam Erectors, who are also actively installing the structure in stages and the progress is taking shape beautifully.

We’re honored to have Structural Wood Systems featured in Alabama’s Treasured Forests, a publication by the Alabama Forestry Commission. It was a privilege to be recognized, and we hope you enjoy the article as much as we have.

The piece highlights the history of SWS, how glued-laminated timber is manufactured, and several of the unique projects we’ve had the opportunity to produce over the years. Crafting high-quality glulam and custom steel connections takes a tremendous amount of skill, precision, and teamwork—and we’re proud of the people who make that happen every day.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former Controller, Mr. Tommy Counts. Tommy was one of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever know—always smiling, always encouraging, and always ready with wise advice when you needed it most.

His positive spirit and generous heart touched everyone at SWS and beyond, and his legacy of warmth and friendship will live on in the countless lives he made brighter. He will be deeply missed.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
