We cut out the damaged section and replaced it with new wood, matched to blend right back in.

Caught early, it's a repair. Caught late, it's a rebuild.

It spreads quietly, and by the time it's visible from the top, it's often affected more than one board.

A settling crack, a water-damage crack, and an impact crack all get patched the exact same way on the surface, and all three can come right back if the actual cause never gets addressed.

Paint over the wrong one, and you'll be looking at the same line again next year.

It's an easy thing to ignore until the day it isn't.

Door hardware wears from the inside first: a loose strike plate, a deadbolt that's slightly out of alignment, screws that have backed out just enough to matter. None of it looks broken. It still turns, still locks, still closes, right up until the moment it doesn't.

A five-minute check now catches what a slammed door in a hurry won't.
