Bees need water to cool their hives and hydrate, but they can't land on open water without drowning.
Help them out with a "Bee Bath":
Use a shallow dish or saucer.
Fill it with stones, pebbles, or marbles so they have a place to land safely above the water line.
Keep the water fresh.
Place it in a quiet spot near your flowers. It’s a 2-minute project that makes a massive difference for local pollinators during the June heatwave.

When the last iris flower fades, most people figure the job's done — snip off the spent blooms and walk away until next spring.
But the few weeks right after flowering are quietly the most important of the whole iris year. It's not just deadheading. What you do (and don't do) now is what decides whether you get a handful of sad blooms next May or a full, jaw-dropping stand of them.
The plant is busy underground, banking energy for next season. A couple of simple moves help it along. One common "tidy-up" habit sets it back without anyone realizing.
The show looks over. Behind the scenes, next year's is just getting started.

We are excited to announce the May Garden of the Month! Congratulations to Judy and David Spring of McCafferty Rd. In Greenville.

The centerpiece of their sprawling gardens is their home which was a one room schoolhouse built in 1863. It was refurbished and the Spring’s purchased it in 1983.

Along the path to the front of the house are beds filled with lupine, bee balm, dianthus, yarrow, lavender, poppies, day lilies, flocks and irises to name a few.

A fenced in garden off to one side includes blueberry, strawberry, apple trees, and various vegetables.

A back patio is lined with a herb patch and more flowers such as rudbeckia, irises and bleeding hearts.

Along with all of this there is a hillside rock garden(currently filled with Dames Rocket) leading to a lower garden filled with more flowers.

Nature usually demands a sunburned sacrifice, but you don’t have to provide one. Your sensitive skin and these nine shade-loving plants share a common enemy: the brutal midday sun. Stop roasting your bank account on scorched petals and lean into the shadows like a pro. Dark Mode Gardening Shade is...

There is an old saying about peonies that every grower eventually learns.

First year they sleep. Second year they creep. Third year they leap.

Most of the time, patience is genuinely the answer. But when peonies that have bloomed for years suddenly stop — that's a different conversation. And the most common reason involves something about an inch below the soil surface that most gardeners have never thought to check.

The cause is in the first comment — and if it's yours, the fix is straightforward once you know what you're looking for.

When tomatoes start flowering and producing fruit, that's the time they earn their reputation as divas. But not this year!
