Blair Construction

Blair Construction In 1911, Blair Construction Founder Roy Blair kept his contracts in his head and his tools in the trunk of his car.

Our portfolio includes public and private schools, churches, municipal buildings, multi-unit residential buildings, medical facilities, and a multitude of industrial and advanced manufacturing facilities. Though we’ve expanded from one man and a toolbox to over 70 employees, we’ve never lost sight of what makes us so successful: an old-fashioned dedication to carrying our customers through a high-

quality, low-stress construction project. Owner Fred Blair continues in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by running a high-performing construction firm based on simple family values and long-standing business principles. Blair Construction has maintained those same small-town high standards while incorporating the latest industry advances in technology and safety. The proof of our success is in our relationships. Since 2010, Blair has completed over 500 projects. Eight in ten of those projects were based on existing client relationships. One beam at a time, Blair Construction has grown into one of the most successful and sought-after contractors in the Blue Ridge region.

The Lynchburg-to-Danville corridor does not operate like a major metro market where additional crews can always step in to help recover lost time.

That makes planning and coordination even more important. When communication breaks down or work falls behind, getting projects back on track is not always simple.

Materials have to get ordered. Trade partners have to stay coordinated. Small issues need to get worked through before they turn into bigger delays.

At Blair, that starts with planning early, staying connected with trade partners, and working through issues before they become schedule problems.

Keeping projects moving takes planning, strong relationships, and communication throughout the job.

Repeat work means something in construction.

When you've worked with a client for years, you learn how they operate. You understand their facility. You know what matters to them and how they like projects to run.

That familiarity matters. Less time gets spent getting up to speed. Small issues get worked through faster. Planning conversations start from experience instead of introductions.

We've had the opportunity to work with clients like VIRginia International RacewayVirginia International Raceway, First Piedmont, IPG, and Chatham Hall across multiple projects and many years.

Those relationships are not something Blair takes lightly.

They are built the same way projects are built. Through trust, communication, and doing what you say you're going to do.

The projects being built in Southern Virginia today do not look the same as they did twenty years ago.

Facilities are more complex. Manufacturing operations have different requirements. More projects need to happen around active operations that cannot afford to shut down.

We're also seeing more investment in workforce development and advanced manufacturing across the region.

Blair continues to support the businesses, facilities, and infrastructure helping shape Southern Virginia's next chapter.

Danville was recently featured as a getaway destination for Raleigh travelers, and we're excited to be part of that story.

A recent feature from This is Raleigh highlighted two of Blair's recent projects, The Laurel Hotel and the Riverwalk Trail, as reasons visitors are making the trip to Southern Virginia this summer. Several other Blair clients were featured as well, including VIRginia International Raceway(VIR) and the Danville Science Center.

Whether you're visiting for the weekend or considering a move to the area (for a job with Blair...😉), check out the article: https://thisisraleigh.com/danville-virginia-getaway-from-raleigh/

A lot of what makes a project successful happens before construction ever starts.

Budgets get reviewed. Plans get refined. Conversations happen early about what is realistic and what is not.

Sometimes that means helping an owner adjust a design. Sometimes it means finding a better path to make a project financially workable.

Good preconstruction is not paperwork.

It is getting the right people involved early so good ideas can become projects that actually get built.

Q: What is one thing owners consistently underestimate during construction?

A: How many decisions need to happen once work gets moving.

Questions come up. Material availability changes. Site conditions are not always what was expected. Small decisions need answers so work can keep moving.

That is why communication and coordination matter.

At Blair, we work to establish clear communication early, keep the right people involved, and address issues quickly so small questions do not become bigger problems.

Good projects move because owners, architects, engineers, and contractors stay connected and work through issues together.

Construction moves fast. Good communication helps keep it moving.

Your contractor’s trade partnerships shape your project’s success more than almost any line item in the contract.

When coordination slips, it leads to delays, rework, and unnecessary pressure.

Before hiring a construction partner for your next expansion, ask these three questions:

- How long have your key trade partners worked with you?
- Have they completed similar, quality work in this sector?
- How do you handle performance accountability throughout the project?

The answers will tell you who is just managing a contract, and who is actually managing a team.
