With the freezing temperatures coming next week, the last thing you want is frozen pipes or a heat failure. Stay ahead of the freeze with these tips:
Keep the Heat On: Even if you're away, leave your thermostat set to at least 55°F. A sudden cold snap could freeze your pipes otherwise.
Open Cabinet Doors: Expose pipes in kitchen and bathroom cabinets to warm air, especially if they’re along exterior walls.
Seal Gaps & Cracks: Inspect windows, doors, and walls for gaps that let in cold air. Use weatherstripping or caulk to seal them up.
Let Faucets Drip: Preventing them from freezing by allowing water to flow more freely.
Insulate Pipes: Foam pipe insulation or heating tape can be a lifesaver for pipes in unheated areas like basements, attics, or garages.
Keep Garage Doors Closed: If you have pipes in the garage, keep that door shut to prevent cold air from seeping in.
Know How to Shut Off Water: In case of a frozen pipe burst, knowing how to quickly shut off the water supply could save you from costly water damage.
Check Your Heating System: Make sure your furnace is in good working order. Call us to get it inspected if you are unsure.
