The new downtown Clermont native landscape highlights species adapted to Central Florida’s soils, rainfall patterns, wildlife, and watershed systems, helping create a landscape that is both beautiful and functional.
What makes this project feel especially meaningful to us is how closely it connects back to Plan(t) for the Future, the mural Cherrylake commissioned in 2024 with artist Justin Alsedek to celebrate the relationship between people, plants, wildlife, and place. Many of the same species represented in the mural are now growing just blocks away in the landscape itself.
🌾 Muhly grass
Its seeds provide food for birds like sparrows and finches, while its dense growth offers shelter for small wildlife.
🦋 Stokes’ aster
A nectar source for pollinators like monarchs, gulf fritillaries, zebra longwings, and native bees.
🐦 Schilling’s dwarf holly
Its bright red berries provide an important food source for birds like cedar waxwings, robins, and mockingbirds during cooler months.
🍁 Red maple
One of the earliest blooming native trees in Florida, providing pollen and nectar for emerging bees and other pollinators in late winter and early spring.
