We just completed this detached ADU in Melrose, and we're excited to finally share it!

• A live-edge wood countertop that we finished with epoxy to preserve its natural character.
• Concrete floors finished with a durable epoxy coating that are both beautiful and easy to maintain.
• A tucked-away hot tub behind the building, creating a private little backyard retreat.
• Custom trim, thoughtful details, and landscaping that ties everything together.

Projects like this are becoming more common thanks to Melroses' new ADU law, allowing homeowners to build an accessory dwelling unit up to 900 sq ft.

Of course, every property is different. Lot size, setbacks, existing structures, and local regulations can all affect what's possible. We've already completed this ADU and have just started another, we have firsthand experience navigating these projects from design through permitting and construction.

🔨 5 things we wish every homeowner knew before demo day 🔨

A quick story about slide 3:

We were mid-install on a bathroom when the client noticed something was off. The wall tile and the trim tile were every so slightly different colors. We ordered both from the same company, in the same color, with the same name on the box. What we didn't know until we were on site is that they were produced in two different facilities. Same green, but not quite. Side by side on the wall, the difference was subtle but undeniable.

The homeowner made the call to switch to a white trim tile instead, which ended up looking great. But the point is we didn't see it coming, and now we always do.

Before anything gets ordered we're checking not just the dye lot but where each piece was manufactured. It's the kind of thing you only learn on the job. We're sharing it so you don't have to learn it the hard way.

Every project teaches us something!
