From WeatherMan G:
Hello Capital Region. Just a few notes on the Nor`Easter for tomorrow night into Saturday. Man, where do we even begin with this one?! This forecast remains incredibly challenging - especially for the valley locations.
* Snow arrives for everyone tomorrow evening. Arrival time should be after rush hour - thinking 6-9 PM.
* As we head through Thursday night and into Friday AM, the valley locations look to see a transition to a mix of rain and snow. On Friday, there remains uncertainty on temperature profiles. We're talking a difference of a degree or two between snow, rain, or a mix of rain/snow in the valleys. That makes things super difficult. Confidence is high that the higher elevations - especially west of the Capital Region will remain mostly snow throughout this entire event. It's the valley locations that remain a big question mark. It's possible that when precipitation rates are heavier on Friday, snow will mix in for the valleys. When the precipitation is falling at lighter rates, a rain/drizzle will occur.
* As the storm system begins to exit late Friday afternoon and Friday night, any rain/snow mix in the valleys will transition back to all snow as colder air filters in on the backside. We'll have to monitor that closely.
* We also need to watch for downsloping on the west facing slopes of the Rensselaer County hills. That could limit totals over there, but you may wind up playing catch up come Friday night into Saturday AM.
* Everything winds down early Saturday morning.
* The NWS Albany snowmap is below. Please know that changes are possible.
* So that about does it for now. I'm always honest with ya' - this one makes me nervous! Especially for the valley locations. If you are a degree or two colder than expected, these numbers will rise. Stay tuned and check back in often! Will post updates as needed.
