Peeling paint like this is something we see all the time on Hardie board siding.

Most homeowners think the siding is failing — but usually it’s actually the original paint job.

In this case, the previous painters sprayed a thin coat of cheap paint over siding that wasn’t properly cleaned or prepped. When moisture gets behind the paint, it causes it to lift and peel like this.
