Gardening With Migraine

Gardening With Migraine I live with chronic migraine and a few other chronic illnesses. Gardening has become a lifeline that works around my daily migraines and pain.

I hope I can share that love with you, by you living vicariously through me or joining me.

Up-potting is pretty easy once you work out the process that works best for you. I’m going to show you my way of doing it, which works well for me. I was going to make this into 2 parts, but I lost track of time. If you don’t mind me going longer in these reels, let me know and I won’t make multiple parts, unless it would be very long.

This is part 2 of starting your seeds for fall! Even if you live in zone 5a, you can have crops in the winter months. However, you need to start now, because they need to be mature by your first frost. I will be explaining more about how to do this.

Leggy seedlings happen due to stress. They don’t always need to be sacrificed, but knowing why they become leggy helps prevent them.

I know it’s been a minute. I passed my finals and I’m dealing with a migraine that started Thursday. Thanks for being patient with me. Oh, I did find out that I can plant her in the ground, but the soil has to be amended. Future video? Most likely.

I’m pretty excited about this small harvest. The two reds are German giant radishes, the white is an avalanche beet, and the right is a purple globe turnip. I definitely can’t grow them outside, but now I have a couple of additions to my soup bags! 💜

Have you started your fall seeds? They need to get started about now if they are going to be mature in time for your first frost. Yeah, I said it. I gardened through the winter, even with ice storms. We got this. What are you growing this fall and winter?

Pyrethrin may be my last resort, but it works in reducing certain pest populations. Today, it reduced squash bugs, but I had to be very careful how I sprayed. It can kill beneficial insects, so targeted sprays were in order. It also breaks down in sunlight and heat, meaning that I felt safe doing this in the morning so it doesn’t linger. It’s not really like neem or BT. It’s not being used as a preventative because of its properties. If you decide to use it, do not get it on you. I use a spray bottle, and then wash my hands. I hope this helps.

If you have aphids or spider mites, but lack beneficial insects, you can order some. I ordered some ladybugs to wage war on my garden. It was pretty cool to release them.
