Your breaker keeps tripping for a reason so don’t ignore it.
Got a call from a customer whose home office breaker had been tripping for about a month. Like many homeowners, he kept resetting it but this last time he reset the breaker and fire shot out of the panel at him.
After arriving, I pulled the breaker and found burn marks on the backside of it. That breaker had been trying to tell him something was wrong for weeks.
After tracing the circuit and testing all outlets and devices to make sure everything was safe, the breaker ended up being the issue. The faulty breaker was replaced and everything tested fine.
A breaker is designed to protect your home and family. If it keeps tripping, it’s a warning sign. It could be an overloaded circuit, loose connection, failing breaker, damaged wiring, or a problem with equipment on the circuit.
Here are some warning signs you should NEVER ignore:
• Breakers tripping repeatedly
• Burning smell near outlets or panel
• Warm outlets or switches
• Flickering lights
• Buzzing sounds from outlets or breakers
• Sparks when resetting a breaker
Don’t keep resetting the problem. Fix the problem.
Electrical failures and malfunctions are responsible for tens of thousands of home fires in the U.S. every year. A breaker repeatedly tripping is your electrical system trying to tell you something is wrong.
If your breaker keeps tripping, call Reid Electric before it turns into a much bigger problem.
