Hunt Premier Landscaping's Guide to Lawn Revitalization: Aeration, Dethatching & Overseeding
Over the course of a growing season, yards naturally collect thatch and suffer from soil compaction. When roots get choked off from water, oxygen, and nutrients, lawns begin to thin out and develop bare spots. Understanding how aeration, dethatching, and overseeding work together is the key to maintaining a healthy, resilient lawn year-round.

1. Dethatching (Clearing the Barrier)
Thatch is the layer of dead stems, roots, and debris that settles between green vegetation and the soil surface. While a thin layer is normal, anything over a half-inch thick forms a waterproof barrier. Dethatching mechanically lifts this buildup so the soil can breathe and absorb moisture instead of letting water run off.

2. Core Aeration (Opening the Soil)
Compacted soil is one of the primary reasons lawns struggle to hold deep roots. Core aeration removes small plugs of soil throughout the yard, relieving pressure and opening channels. This allows air, water, and fertilizer to pe*****te directly into the root zone, encouraging deeper, stronger root growth.
3. Overseeding (Restoring Density)

Once dethatching has cleared the surface and aeration has opened up the soil, overseeding introduces fresh, high-quality grass seed to the lawn. Spreading seed directly after aeration maximizes seed-to-soil contact inside the core holes, creating the ideal conditions for strong germination and filling in thin areas before weeds can take over.

🌿 SPOTTED LANTERNFLIES IN YOUR YARD? CHECK YOUR OVERGROWTH! 🌿
Notice these red, black, and white spotted critters hanging around your plants? Those are spotted lanternfly nymphs—and if you have overgrown foliage or wild vines, they’ve found their dream home!
Here is how overgrown yards help these invasive pests spread like wildfire:
🪜 The "Ladder Effect": Dense foliage and unchecked vines act as a physical bridge, letting lanternfly nymphs easily climb, jump, and spread from plant to plant.
🏡 Ideal Breeding Grounds: Overgrown brush hides their favorite feeding spots (like wild grapevines and invasive weeds) while shielding them from natural predators.
🚗 Hitchhiking Hosts: As they grow, brush hanging over driveways or fences makes it easy for adult flies and egg masses to hitch a ride on vehicles and equipment, spreading them to neighboring properties!
Don't let overgrown plants turn your yard into a lanternfly haven.
✂️ Hunt Premier Landscaping can help you reclaim your outdoor space! From clearing out host vines and clearing overgrown brush to trimming back dense canopies, we help protect your landscape from invasive pests before they take over.
