Have you ever tried Nangkadak? 😁

A couple weeks ago we harvested the very first Nangkadak from one of our tree at the nursery.
It was absolutely delicious!!! 😍

Nangkadak (a Cempejack variety) is a Jackfruit & Cempedak cross, bringing together some of the best qualities of both fruits.

This tree is about five years old, but here’s the fun part: a few years ago, Jayanti top-worked the tree, grafting several different varieties onto it… 3 Cempajack varieties (Cheena, Sri Gading, and Nangkadak) and 2 Jackfruit (both Ziman Pink) all growing on the same tree!!! 😎

And now, one of those Nangkadak grafts has given us its first fruit! 🙌

As you can see when Jayanti opened it, the fruit was beautifully pollinated, with the inside packed full of plump, delicious fruit pods. And the flavor did not disappoint. 😋

And there are still 3 more fruits coming up 😲🤩

We love the magic of top-working and how it allows us to grow and evaluate multiple varieties on one established tree! 🤗

Have you ever had Nangkadak?
If you have, what did you think of it?
And how would you describe the flavor? 👇

Just wanted to share some of the mango abundance we’ve been enjoying this week! 🥭🥭🥭

All of these mangoes were harvested from our own trees here at NatureWorks Nursery… and the fun part is, these are all trees growing in pots!

We’ve had a really wet summer here on Maui, so it hasn’t exactly been the ideal mango season. But even with all that rain, our trees have still been producing and we’ve been so happy with what we’re harvesting.

This week we’ve been eating Sweet Tart, Dwarf Julie, Ceci Love, Little Gem, Ice Cream… and probably a few others we’re forgetting. 😆

So if you don’t have a big yard or a lot of land, don’t let that stop you from growing mangoes. You can absolutely grow mango trees in pots and get some pretty amazing fruit from them.

We’re pretty stoked over here. 🥭😋💛

Earlier this summer we delivered and planted two fruit trees for one of our clients up in Kula:
One 65-gallon Ceci Love mango 🥭 & one 25-gallon Little Gem avocado 🥑.

We brought along everything they needed to get off to a great start: Johnson-Su compost, organic fertilizer, worm castings, mulch, and of course, lots of care in the planting process. 🌿

At NatureWorks Nursery, we can help you every step of the way:
🌳 Choosing the right fruit trees for your property
🚚 Delivering them to you
🌱 Professionally planting them
💚 And helping you care and maintain them as they grow

We believe that every fruit tree planted is a small but meaningful step toward greater local food security here on Maui and throughout Hawaiʻi. 🌺

If you’ve been dreaming of planting a few fruit trees or creating an entire backyard orchard, come see us!
We’d love to help you get growing. 🌱✨

Big shoutout to our friend Charlie who rocked the planting with us that day 🙏🏽🙌🏼👊🏼

Where are my plant propagation lover?

Olivia’s Cloning Gel is now available for sale at the nursery! 🙌🏻

This past year we had a hard time sourcing it locally so we ended up contacting the company directly to become a distributer on Maui.

This is our favorite gel to propagate cuttings that are difficult to root. One we always try to have around.

Come get yourself a bottle!

We are open from 10 am to 4pm on:
☀️ Tuesdays,
☀️ Thursdays,
☀️ Saturdays

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that you need a large property to grow fruit trees.

You don’t.

This beautiful Little Gem mango tree is growing in a pot, and this is its very first year producing fruit! 😊🙌🏻

Even though this summer has not been a great mango season across Hawaiʻi, we’re having an exciting season here at NatureWorks Nursery because many of our mango trees are fruiting for the very first time.

Right now we have fruit on varieties including:
🥭 Little Gem
🥭 Dwarf Hawaiian
🥭 Tété Nené
🥭 Julie
🥭 Super Julie
🥭 Venus
🥭 Ceci Love
🥭 Haitian Baptist

Seeing these trees fruit in containers is such a great reminder that you don’t need a large yard to grow your own food.

Whether you are renting, have a small backyard, or simply want the flexibility to move your trees around, don’t let limited space stop you from planting fruit trees and harvesting from home.

You can grow an abundant harvest right from a pot!

If you’ve been thinking about adding a mango tree to your home, come visit us at NatureWorks Nursery.
We would love to help you choose the right variety and show you how successful container-grown mangoes can be.

Let’s grow more food together! 🌱🥭

Not subtle.
Not shy.
Not interested in fitting in.

Just bloom after bloom after bloom, effortlessly soaking up all the attention.

Thats Hibiscus! 🌺

Some people collect shoes.
Some people collect handbags.
Some people collect hibiscus.

Honestly, we understand all three… but only one of them blooms in your garden 😍

If you’ve been thinking about adding a little more exotic color to your life, you may want to come check out our hibiscus collection at NatureWorks Nursery.

The have been putting on quite a show this year 🌺✨

Good news for Pikake lovers! 🌸

We don’t always have Double Rose Pikake in stock, but a batch we’ve been propagating is finally ready, looking beautiful, and ready for their forever home!

This charming little plant produces gorgeous double flowers that are wonderfully fragrant. Pikake has been treasured for generations and woven into countless lei. 🥰

A beautiful plant to grow near a walkway, lanai, or anywhere you want to enjoy one of Hawaiʻi’s most cherished fragrances.

We currently have a nice selection available at the nursery and wanted to make sure you knew before they’re gone. 😊

One of the most common question we receive is:
“What should I plant for a beautiful hedge?” 🧐

And most of the time, our first recommendation is
Surinam Cherry! 🍒

Surinam Cherry can make a great privacy hedge thanks to its dense growth, glossy green foliage, colorful fruit, and ability to respond beautifully to pruning.

When established, it creates a lush living wall while also producing an abundance of little fruits. 😍

Other trees that we also like to recommend for hedges are Brazil Plum and Jaboticaba.

For those looking to create an even more diverse edible hedge, these are great additions to Surinam Cherry.

The combination creates a beautiful, productive, and visually interesting border that provides fruit throughout different times of the year.

We hope this will inspire some of you to make your next privacy hedge a Fruity one 😁🍒🙌🏻

Cheers to another
Epic Mango Tree grafting project this week! 🥭✨

This one is on the dry side of Maui, where Jayanti top-worked a mango tree that wasn’t producing particularly well and gave it a whole new future. 😎

He added a total of 7 grafts to it - 4 different varieties: Super Alfonso, Orange Sherbet, Ceci Love, and Tete Nene.

Transforming poor quality Mango Trees into amazing ones is so fulfilling. We need more people dedicated to learning this art of grafting to keep doing this important work.

Now we will be patiently waiting for these grafts to grow and develop over the coming years.

We can’t wait to see this tree mature into what is sure to be an incredible multi-graft mango tree. 🥭🌳

Want to get a multi-grafts Mango Tree?
Come visit us at NatureWorks Nursery 😁 🌱✨
