PB's Lawn Service

PB's Lawn Service Gay and I started PB's Lawn Service in 1195....oops, not sure what they were cutting grass with back then! I meant 1995. We turned 25 years old last year.

Gay and I worked together everyday for 15 years. I now have a two helpers and we're getting it done.

Goodbye winter/spring! Hello summer! Oh, and summer is off to a flying start. It was 95 degrees once this past week and the liars are predicting 95 this coming Monday! In case you don't keep up with the weather it has been either above or below normal, the last couple of years. 95 in May? Not usually. But last year it seems like there were several days that it was 95 in June. And we had a couple of days of 98 degrees the year before that. I want to say the month was September? And if you are 60 years old, if the dust and pollen aren't getting you than the heat is! Thank God my helpers are on the mower and not me! And they do the mowing without a mask or bandana! I'd be sick as hell. I am very thankful for Dave and Kirk!

I just created my first post on Google My Business. If you know of my Wife and I then you probably know what has been posted. Except you may not know that PB's is a member of the BBB Online and that I have two assistants. And that I need more business. Thanks.

Hello. This is Jack Burney of PB's Lawn Service. When my Wife and I first started PB's I worked by myself for a couple of years. Then my Wife, Gay Perry, began working with me, she ran the lawn mowers. We worked together every day for 15 years before she was forced to retire about eight years ago. I...

The last time that I posted something the Corona Virus had me pretty freaked out. I've been a germophobe-lite for some time. For the last few years during flu seasons whenever I went to the gas pump I have wiped down everything I touched with a wipe after I finished fueling up. And after going to Walmart, especially Walmart, or other grocery stores, I wiped down all door and refrigerator k***s, car handles, etc, religiously. Until I realized that I wasn't wiping down the groceries. So I quit doing that and walla, here comes the Corona Virus.
A little over two weeks ago I woke one morning at my usual time, around 6am. All of a sudden my chest was on fire! I began coughing, sneezing, and wheezing! Now I've had bronchitis all of my life. You don't wake up in this condition on the first morning. It takes 3-5 days before you have the painful coughs, the wheezing and a sore chest! Of course my first thought was, it's the CORONA!!! As soon as possible I called my Dr. and we did one of those video-med chats. I told them what I had awoken to. They prescribed meds and the paperwork for the Corona Virus Test. I went to Bartow and had that most pleasurable long-ass Q-tip shoved up my nose! About a week later someone from Baycare called and I found out that my results were negative! Yea!!!
But I still had to be landlocked for two total weeks. In the meanwhile I am getting really paranoid because our lawn service was falling very badly behind. And it was still only me! I called a great friend and he called some great friends of his. We had a crew that was going to be going to our yards so at least someone was going to be there. They worked several days until my quarantine was over. I was able to retain one of them. He has turned out to be an great asset after only a few days. So it's looking like that after two summers of running behind that our company will be back on track, mowing every week during summer! Wish us luck and godspeed!!!

Covid 19! The last post that I did on our FB PB's page the Coronavirus was like fear in the back of my mind. Now every time I have to go to the store I'm thinking don't touch my face, sterilize my hands when I get back to my vehicle, and should I bleach all cans of soup and anything else metallic or plastic? What about shipments from China, of course it's a little too late for that ( I checked online and at that time the informed sources didn't believe that the virus could survive the plane trip from China.)
I had read that the virus couldn't survive past 26 degrees.I had assumed that they were talking about Celsius, WRONG! They were talking about FAHRENHEIT! And that would be about 76 degrees!!! In most supermarkets the average store temperature must be below 75 degrees? The US mail, can Covid live on envelopes, etc? And take-out? Sorry, way too freaked out at this point! Everyone stay safe!!! jb

Where do I start? Since the last time I posted, my Wife, Gay Perry, had a cancerous tumor removed from her bladder in May of 2019. I had to take off 5 work days and ran behind at work all summer. For my BFF, she is still cancer free as far as we know. And the weather....still either below normal or above normal! January 2020 was above normal. February 2020 was below normal (but that wouldn't have been unusual.) Now most of March 2020 has been above normal. And if the weather people are correct, by the end of next week it will 95 degrees!!! I hope that they are so wrong! I usually refuse to put on sunscreen in any non-summer month but yesterday and today I did! And I'll say it again. It is so unfair that we can be hot in the fall and winter but not be cold in the summer! But don't think that I don't know to careful what I wish for. So forget that other summer notion. Just forget that I ever said it. And using that Jedi mind trick, "You will forget what I said!" I will ensure that Murphy's law will not chastise me. And lastly, everyone take very good care and stay safe during this bastardly Covid-19!!!l jb

Got to say that I'll be glad when this winter is over. It has been either above normal or below normal. We've been rained out over FIVE TIMES! Loosing five working day in one winter is not good! And in addition to no freezes there has been so much more miscellaneous trimming. There haven't been many of them, but nights around 55 and days around 75 is the best! We're just glad that El Nino doesn't happen very often. Happy spring to you all. jb

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

It's been a kinda ordinary summer so far (if you don't count all that rain we received most of May!) We have picked up about a half a dozen new customers four of which are in Southern Dunes (ran by two really nice property managers!) We are in June already with the Fourth or July only a month away. Holidays are rough in regard that we are not allowed in parks like Swiss Golf & Tennis or Southern Dunes. But you have to take what you can get. And in this business where you work six a days a week in the summer time, a rainy day can put you behind and change your schedule for weeks.

Is this some great weather or what? Compared to the poor folks up north we've got it made! Are there going to be anymore freezes? There's still time for some but lets hope that the jet stream keeps them far away! Worked in shorts and tank tops all week! The dust and allergens haven't been so nice.

Gobble gobble gobble....Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Whatever happened to simpleness?
It seems that everything is now a racket. Bought a washing machine lately? You used to throw your clothes in and set it to small, medium, or large, and go on with your life. With our new Kenmore it is either regular or deep fill. And in the meanwhile it "senses", ESP? It fills up a little while, then it agitates, fills a while, agitates....WHY DON'T YOU JUST FILL UP TO A CERTAIN LEVEL AND AGITATE? Why do we have to have a motherboard in EVERYTHING? Everything is a racket! Just thank God that our mower and 2 cycles are motherboard-free, so far!
