On a 100°+ Texas day, your commercial HVAC system may already be working near its capacity just to remove the heat entering the building.
So if your thermostat is set to 72°F and the building is struggling to reach it, dropping the thermostat to 65°F won’t make the system suddenly produce more cooling.
Instead, you may see:
• Longer or nearly continuous run times
• Higher energy consumption
• Increased wear on equipment
• Comfort complaints from employees or customers
• The building temperature continuing to rise during the hottest part of the day
💡 The important question isn’t always “How low is the thermostat set?”
It’s:
“Is the HVAC system performing the way it should for the building and conditions?”
If your commercial system can’t maintain temperature, there may be an underlying issue such as:
• Restricted airflow
• Dirty filters or coils
• Refrigerant problems
• Equipment or control issues
• Ductwork problems
• Building envelope or insulation issues
• Aging or improperly maintained equipment
• Equipment capacity that doesn’t match the building’s current needs

Long runtimes during extreme heat aren’t automatically a problem—but if your building continues getting warmer, has significant hot spots, or the system is no longer keeping up like it normally does, it’s worth having it evaluated.
