Scherer Electric has been selected as the beta test site for Eaton’s newest innovation:

EWED – Eaton’s Wireless Energy Distribution

That’s right… wireless electricity is here.

Much like wireless charging changed how we charge our phones and tablets, EWED allows us to replace traditional receptacles and transmit power wirelessly throughout your home—eliminating cords, clutter, and those “where does this plug in?” moments.

This concept traces back to the original vision of Nikola Tesla, who dreamed of a world powered without wires. And now, over a century after the electrification showcased at Buffalo’s historic Pan-American Exposition, that dream is finally becoming reality… right here in Western New York.

It’s starting in Buffalo. Again.

🎶 Happy National Vinyl Record Day! 🎶

Debi and I grew up in the golden age of music — the 60s, 70s, and 80s — when the soundtrack of life came in so many forms: 78s, 45s, 33 1/3 LPs (that’s Long Play for the younger crowd 😉), Mono to Stereo, Reel-to-Reel, 8-Tracks, cassettes, CDs, MP3s… and now streaming. We’ve seen it all!

But for me, nothing beats a record. There’s just something magical about the rich sound of vinyl — the warm tones, the gentle hiss, the occasional pop — that makes the music feel alive. I love listening to an entire side, then getting up to flip it over.

If I had to pick a favorite, I’d go with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. I’m guessing Debi’s choice would be Glass Houses by Billy Joel. And how could we forget those K-Tel compilation albums they sold on TV? 😂

So today, let’s drop the needle, turn it up, and celebrate the music that moves us. 🎵

🐾 Happy National Spoil Your Dog Day! 🐾

Let’s be honest… around here, every day is Spoil Your Dog Day. 😆 Tucker and Zoe live the good life — and we’re pretty sure that’s true for most of our fellow dog lovers out there.

But today, we’re stepping it up. Instead of just sharing a spoonful, they’re each getting their very own scoop of ice cream 🍦 (dog-safe, of course!). And knowing Debi, she’s probably got a few other surprises up her sleeve for our cuddle babies. 🐶💛

If you’ve got a four-legged family member, give them some extra love today — an extra treat, a belly rub, or maybe even a puppy playdate. Because life’s just better with wagging tails and wet noses. ❤️

🎯🎉 Happy National Pinball Day! 🎉🎯

One of my all-time favorite arcade games — and believe it or not, one of the few things actually older than me! 😆

I remember when it was just a quarter to play back in the ’80s. You’d walk into an arcade, hear the bells ringing, lights flashing, flippers snapping — and that unmistakable ding-ding-ding! that meant you were racking up points and living your best pinball life. 🎰⚡

But did you know pinball wasn’t always the electrified, blinking, beeping machine we know today?

🔸 The roots of pinball go back to the 1700s with bagatelle-style games — no electricity, just gravity and a lot of luck.
🔸 1930s: Coin-operated pinball emerged, still fully mechanical — no flippers, no lights, no power.
🔸 1947: Everything changed — flippers were introduced in Humpty Dumpty by Gottlieb, and the game became skill-based.
🔸 1950s–70s: The electro-mechanical era took over — relays, motors, chimes, and blinking lights powered by good old-fashioned electricity.
🔸 Late ’70s and beyond: Solid-state electronics brought digital scoring, sound effects, and wild new gameplay features we know and love today. 💡💥

So where would pinball be without electricity? Probably a lot quieter… and a whole lot less exciting! 😉

As we close out July, we’re proud to shine a light on something that means a lot to us at Scherer Electric — mentoring the next generation of electricians.

Every year, we welcome interns from BOCES into our crew, giving them a real-world look at what a career in the trades is all about. And you know what we hear from almost every one of them?

That’s the power of hands-on, kinetic learning — something we believe should start even earlier for students interested in the trades. Internships don’t just teach skills; they build confidence, direction, and passion.

We’ll be honest — Mike’s not exactly a big hugger (unless you’re a dog or maybe a grandbaby someday… fingers crossed! 😉). But Debi and her side of the family? Let’s just say you don’t get in or out of a room without a hug — sometimes two! ❤️

Whether you’re a full-on bear hugger or more of a polite side-patter, today is about connection, kindness, and reminding the people in your life that they matter.

🇺🇸 Buffalo Soldiers Day 🇺🇸
Today we honor the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers — the African American regiments formed in 1866 after the Civil War.

While the name might make you think of Buffalo, New York, the story of the Buffalo Soldiers stretches far beyond our hometown. These brave men served with honor and distinction on the Western frontier, in the Spanish-American War, both World Wars, and beyond — often facing discrimination and unequal treatment while still defending our country with courage and pride.

At Scherer Electric, we believe in recognizing those who paved the way — not just in the trades, but in the fight for freedom, dignity, and equality.

Today is a reminder that service comes in many forms… and some of it was rendered under the harshest of circumstances with little recognition.

Let’s honor the legacy. Let’s remember the sacrifice.

🥃 Happy National Scotch Day! 🥃

At Scherer Electric, we believe the best things in life are built to last — like a well-wired home… or a properly aged Scotch.

Mike’s a fan of the peaty stuff — think Lagavulin, the kind that practically smokes in the glass. Bold, complex, and unforgettable… just like the best memories.

One of our favorite stories? Mike once shared a dram of Lagavulin with an elderly lady who became emotional — Scotch had been her late husband’s favorite. She’d never tasted one so smoky before, and the connection meant so much, she went out and bought a bottle… then surprised Mike with homemade Christmas cookies later that year. 🥹🎄

That’s the magic of a good drink shared in good company — sparking stories and creating memories that outlast the bottle.

So tonight, raise a glass — neat, on the rocks, or fireside — and toast to the little things that light us up inside.

Cheers to craftsmanship, conversation, and the connections that last a lifetime.
