It was a great day yesterday in Madison as we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new addition to the Madison Fire Department Headquarters.

SP+A was proud to team with in a design-build relationship to deliver this important infrastructure improvement for the Town of Madison. The two-bay, two-story addition provides properly sized apparatus bays and a new town-wide Emergency Operations Center on the second floor — all within Madison’s historic downtown district.

Building in this setting was no small task. The project required careful attention to the historic character and scale of the neighborhood, zoning requirements, difficult soils, winter construction, a constrained adjacent site, and existing retail and commercial buildings that have been part of the downtown for more than 50 years.

The project was partially supported through earmarked federal funding, and we were pleased to have Congressman Joe Courtney join us today to recognize the successful completion of the project.

Congratulations to everyone who helped bring this project across the finish line.

Recently, Brian Varano and Michelle Miller graduated from the 6-month interdisciplinary leadership workshop that was presented in partnership with AIA Connecticut to help emerging leaders in their respective industries build relationships. We are proud and excited to see how Brian and Michelle will apply their experiences both in and outside of the office.

CFA Society Hartford, Connecticut Bar Association, Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, Connecticut Young Insurance Professionals, and Hartford County Bar Association also partnered in this program.

It’s bittersweet that we announce the retirement of Joan Ireland! For more than 15 years, Joan has provided administrative support to SP+A. Over the years, she has worn many hats and has always been there behind the scenes, helping our staff deliver the high level of service we’re so proud of. Over the past few weeks, Joan has been sharing her knowledge and experience with Emma Hammond, who will be stepping into her very big shoes. Congratulations on your retirement, Joan! Thank you for your many years of dedication, support, and everything you’ve done for SP+A. You will certainly be missed!

Proud to assist Benesch on the Marian Urman Peace Garden on the UCONN campus. SP+A provided engineering design support for the 12,000 s.f. space located along Academic Way on the Storrs campus that creates a reflective space that promotes tolerance and open-mindedness. UCONN partnered with sculptor Peri Gutierrez to create the space.
