Why do we install a soft joint between the pool shell and surrounding deck?

The pool structure and surrounding deck can move differently over time. The soft joint provides separation between the two surfaces, helping prevent the deck from transferring unwanted pressure directly onto the pool shell.

It’s a small but important detail of building a quality custom gunite pool.
