What You May Or May Not Know About Roofing Warranties
When it comes to roofing warranties, homeowners can easily get confused if they aren’t sure what to look for in a roof warranty. Here are some homeowner tips..
When it comes to buying a new roof, too much of an emphasis is placed on finding a roofing company that offers a warranty with the purchase. What many customers do not realize is that, by doing this, they often end up with warranty terms that are misleading.
Customers should be skeptical of roofing companies that promise a “lifetime” warranty or a warranty that seems to be too good to be true. Many roofing companies these days have begun to use these warranties as a marketing tool due to the competitive market that currently exists. However, the companies who advertise these kinds of warranties are often the ones that are the most desperate for your business and thus probably do not offer the highest quality roofs and roofing services in the first place.

“Lifetime” warranties can be very misleading. Once consumers take the time to read through the actual warranty terms, it usually becomes very clear that there are a number of things not covered by the warranty at all. These things that are not covered typically include the most common types of defects and damage. For example, most roofing warranties have stipulations and exceptions built in, such as the common one that a company cannot guarantee that a roof’s coating will not leak over time.
Another way in which roof warranties can be deceiving is in the sense that many of them are “material only,” which means that they will cover the costs of the replacement parts needed for the repair, but they will not cover the labor, which tends to be the more expensive aspect of the repair in the first place.
Overall, rather than focusing too much time and energy in finding a company that offers a roofing warranty, it is typically better for home owners in the long run if they simply find a company that provides quality and durable roof installation that is built to last in the first place.
