✅TAKE THE INITIATIVE✅
Nothing is worse than working with or even for someone who fails to take initiative and must be told to do any and everything in order to accomplish even the most basic tasks. This job NEEDS quick, accurate and decisive decision making paired with the initiative to do WORK! We don’t need the weak pretend leaders who cower in the shadows and ride the coattails of the trailblazers!
We preach that the probie has to take initiative to prove themself and earn their spot, so why does that expectation of taking the initiative not carry on beyond just the probies?
‼️EVERYONE NEEDS TO TAKE THE INITIATIVE‼️
On this page, we are all about EVERYONE doing the work and promoting a culture that thrives on everyone leaving the job better than they found it. Time, rank or experience mean nothing and carry NO respect if you display laziness, cockiness and think you are above the work. From the highest ranking chief to the newest probie, you will never be above doing the work. That includes taking the initiative and doing what ever needs to be done in order to advance our service and effectively/efficiently carry out our mission. This can be on emergency scenes, around the station, at the administrative level and everything in between. This is what separates the real leaders on this job versus those who simply talk a big game.
It’s easy to tell everyone else what they are doing wrong and bark out orders, it takes a true leader to practice what you preach, take the initiative and be the example.
