Each day of Safety Week highlights an important part of keeping our jobsites safe. Today’s focus is Respect — respecting the plan and the process behind it.

Every successful project starts with a solid plan. But safety depends on more than just creating that plan—it depends on trusting it, following it, and adjusting as needed. When we overlook the plan or fail to reassess, we increase the risk of serious incidents. On a construction site, respect means staying engaged, speaking up, and looking out for one another. It means using Stop Work Authority when something doesn’t feel right and working together to solve problems safely.

At L&S Formless Curb Company, safety is built on teamwork, communication, and accountability. When we respect the plan and each other, we help eliminate hazards and prevent serious injuries — creating a safer jobsite for everyone.

Our crew was recently in York PA where we placed 590 feet of vertical curb for an up can coming USPS. The project gave another crew member the opportunity to continue developing his experience operating the curb machine. Although he has operated curb before, opportunities like this help keep those skills sharp and continue building confidence with the machine.

Did you ever wonder how a stringless curb machine works?

Instead of relying on traditional hand strung stringlines, a stringless curb machine uses a digital guidance system to control alignment and grade. This system is based on a 3D model or survey data that defines the exact path, elevation, and slope of the desired curb before work begins. Sensors and receivers on the machine continuously reference that design data while operating. As the machine moves, it is constantly comparing its real-time position to the digital layout. This allows the operator to make precise adjustments to line, elevation, and cross slope directly from the controls without stopping to manually reset any strings.

While proving to be overall more efficient, use of the stringless curb machine results in the placement of more consistent, accurate curb from start to finish.

Happy Wednesday!

Late last week, L&S Formless Curb poured 2,825 lft of slant curb. This project gave us a chance to focus on teamwork and training in the field, providing the opportunity for crew members to build confidence operating the curb machine under guidance from their seasoned colleagues. Great teamwork to everyone involved!
