Shelby County Secondary Roads encourages residents to be prepared and avoid travel during the forecasted storm and 48 hours following. Plows will be unable to maintain clear roadways during rapid snow accumulation or high winds. For your safety and ours, Shelby County advises against travel in blizzard conditions. Our operations will be most effective as the accumulation and winds subside and visibility is restored. Snow removal operations may take up to 48 hours after the storm subsides. Please consider the timing of the storm and our ability to respond; Christmas travel will likely be difficult in the rural areas.
Sincerely,

Brandon Burmeister, PE
Shelby County Engineer

The National Weather Service forecasts possible Blizzard Conditions and Extreme Cold beginning late Wednesday and lasting through Friday. Travel could be dangerous to near impossible at times on Thursday and Friday. Extreme cold is expected, with wind chills falling 20 to 40 below zero or colder from late Thursday through the end of the week. Total snow accumulations of three to six inches with locally higher amounts are possible. Wind gusts of 40-to-50 miles per hour or greater may occur late Thursday through Friday. Those planning to travel late Wednesday through Friday are encouraged to pay close attention to forecast updates and road conditions and prepare accordingly if travel is a must. Altering travel plans, if possible, is strongly encouraged. Plan on slick and snow-covered road conditions. Blowing snow and possible blizzard conditions may sometimes reduce visibility to near zero. The dangerously cold wind chills, as low as 40 below zero, could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the entire state of Iowa from Wednesday evening through late Friday night.

Don't mind the terrible picture taking because you don't need to be a professional photographer when these ladies are on the job!! Yards were pretty tall and thick today but the girls got it done with an oversatisfying striped lawn left behind!! Check out the videos so you can see how tall the grass was in front of the decks! Some spots were half way up my shins!! The 37hp Briggs Vanguard laying them stripes down with almost 8 inches of growth if not more! Haven't come across a job these ladies can't get done!!

I got to play rookie photographer again today for the ladies! It has been amazing watching these 2 progress so much already this summer from last year! Ashlyn, my wonderful daughter has gone from last year having a hard time finding her lines and staying on them to beautifully manicuring and striping every day!! An unfortunate injury has given me this time to see the progress they have made...let me tell you I am a very proud fiance and father!!
