Don’t waste your money on fescue sod in the middle of summer (you can still do bermuda and zoysia).

Every year we see homeowners being told they can install fescue sod during the hottest months of the year. While it can be installed, the odds are stacked against it when temperatures are consistently in the 90s and 100s.

Fescue is a cool-season grass, and extreme heat puts tremendous stress on new sod before it has a chance to establish strong roots.

For our area, we recommend waiting until late October or early November, when daytime temperatures are averaging 85°F or below. Those cooler conditions give new fescue the best chance to root, thrive, and look beautiful for years to come.

At Apex Sod, we’d rather tell you to wait than sell you something that isn’t likely to succeed. We’d rather earn your trust than make a quick sale.

If you’re planning a fescue project this fall, now is a great time to get on our schedule.
