Yesterday we got to perform some much-needed crown restoration on two tulip trees that had been topped in the past.
Topping is one of the worst things you can do to a tree. It creates weak, poorly attached sprouts, opens the tree up to decay and disease, and usually shortens its life. What we’re doing here is carefully restoring a healthier structure so these trees have a better chance long-term.
Proud of the crew for the careful work. If your trees have ever been topped (or you’re thinking about it), feel free to reach out - there are almost always better options.

This large post oak was struck by lightning in last weekend's storms, leaving behind a severely compromised stem with a heavy lean toward the house.

Energy went through the home causing a multitude of electricity issues, but we were able to safely remove this standing hazard so that repairs can be made without worry of failure.

It was a brutally hot day but our team kept it cool and made it happen! It feels good to be able to help those who were affected by these unfortunate events.

We’ve been seeing a lot of preventable tree decline lately, and it’s happening in two main places: new home builds and fresh sod installations.

1. Tree Decline After Construction
Most of the damage happens long before a homeowner ever moves in. Heavy equipment, soil compaction, grade changes, and root cutting all take a toll, even when the tree still “looks fine” at the end of the project.

Without pre-construction tree assessments and proper tree protection plans, decline often shows up 2–5 years later.
We’re also seeing hazard trees left standing that should have been removed before construction began, creating long-term safety issues for homeowners.

2. Sod Installed Over Root Systems
Sod looks great on day one, but laying it directly over a tree’s critical root zone can smother roots and trap moisture, creating the perfect environment for root decay. Trees and turf have completely different water and soil needs and when sod wins, the tree loses.
We’re seeing mature trees slowly decline because their root systems were buried under new soil and irrigation schedules meant for grass, not trees.

If you’re building, landscaping, or planning improvements, bringing an arborist in early is one of the most cost‑effective decisions you can make.

A little planning now prevents thousands in tree loss later and keeps your property safer and healthier for years to come.
